You may need to leave your house quickly after an earthquake. Organize and assemble the most important information you will need and include a copy in your Go Bag. If your home is damaged or destroyed in an earthquake, you will need important documents to file an insurance claim, such as identification, a paper contact list, and pictures of your home and belongings prior to and after the earthquake. Put these documents in a sealed plastic bag, then place it into your Go Bag and leave it somewhere you can easily access. Learn more about earthquake preparedness at http://bit.ly/Earthquake-Ready.

County of Santa Clara OEM 08.07.2020

Will your family know what to do when there is an earthquake? Prepare your family for an earthquake by practicing drop, cover, and hold on. Do not try to exit a building during an earthquake as you are more likely to be injured from falling roof tiles, building facades, and glass. Instead, protect yourself from falling objects in the safest place possible near wherever you may be. The greater your limitations, the more critical it is to create safe spaces in advance. Most importantly, stay calm. Counting out loud until the shaking stops will reassure those around you that you are okay and to remain calm and focused.
