Dear Members of the SVO Board of Directors: As the leading progressive feminist group in Silicon Valley, Democratic Activists of Women Now (DAWN) is deeply concerned over the racist and divisive behavior that the Silicon Valley Organization continues to use in their campaign attacks to garner support for their chosen candidates. For too long racist undertones in political attack ads have been the theme from SVO's Executive Leadership team, staff and board. The SVO can no long...er claim these were done by an outside organization or by mistake, as this is a repeated pattern of behaviors documented over many years. It is the leadership that decides on campaign contributions, campaign ads and the procurement of any outside consultants. It is also up to the leaders of the organization to determine the culture in which this organization conducts itself, and why the culture of racism was acceptable. We believe it is not enough for just one leader to accept culpability. Our hope is that the board reconsider and reflect deeply about how the current Executive Leadership, including Vice President Madison Nguyen, Directors, and staff reflects the old way of doing SVO business, which is not inclusive or accountable. Our expectation is that any of candidates who have been supported by SVO speak out against these racist ads and return or donate any SVO campaign contribution as a sign of solidarity and support for communities of color and the greater good of San Jose and Santa Clara County.
