In the first four months of 2021, Republican lawmakers introduced over 360 bills to restrict voting rights and 536 bills to restrict abortion rights. The defeat of Donald Trump, and Biden’s attempts to dismantle Trump’s white supremacist agenda, have inspired a fevered campaign by state-level Republican lawmakers of voter suppression and abortion restrictions. While at first glance these efforts might appear to be unrelated, they are deeply connected, says Smith College professor Loretta Ross.

Justice and accountability are necessary but policy change and action must also happen. Today, we finally saw some accountability with a guilty verdict. Our hearts are with George Floyd's family. Today's verdict doesn't fix a broken system. And we remember the lives that have never found justice. We continue the fight for justice and liberation in their name. BLACK LIVES MATTER

"If we don’t all play our parts as proponents of fairness and equality, harmful stereotypes will continue to infect the coverage and undermine the success of the many diverse women who are now entering the top tiers of government. Take action when you see women leaders being ignored or dismissed by sexist coverage by calling it out. Today, more than ever before, let your voice demand that their voices are heard." Well done Lois Phillips and Anita Perez Ferguson!

This #EqualPayDay, we need our leaders to fight like hell for the women who need it most. It’s no secret that womenparticularly Black women and Latinasaren’t... paid fairly. And the #Covid19 crisis is making that reality even worse. New research from Lean In and SurveyMonkey found that half of Latinas and Black women have struggled to pay for basic necessities like rent and childcare in the past yearand half have less than $300 in savings to fall back on in an emergency. Millions of Black women and Latinas have been pushed to the edge of poverty by a system that was stacked against them well before coronavirus. We urgently need systemic change, including closing the gender and racial pay gaps, raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour, making childcare more accessible and affordable, and providing national paid family leave. Business leaders and policymakers need to take bold steps NOW. leanin.org/equalpayday

"Petersen started her climate experiments in the fifth grade, learning Python programming and creating a tool that successfully predicted skiing conditions. Struck by the power programming has to understand the world, she embarked on her Crop4Cast project after learning about a drought in Ethiopia that left 18 million people at risk for starvation. I have three adopted siblings who all faced food insecurity in their former homes, Petersen explains. I wanted to help by monitoring crop health as crops develop. When it comes to STEM, I learned it’s never too early to get started.
