Santa Barbara-based Modern Crusoe (Chris Bindloss) first gained major recognition in the indie music scene after his previous release, Foreign Language, landed in some of Spotify’s most coveted playlists, including Fresh Finds and Acoustic Spring. Since then, the budding musician has re-dedicated his concentration to the art of storytelling through music, culminating in his latest project, Slow Bloom. Produced by Tyler Neil Johnson (Austin Basham, John Vincent III), the proj...ect was recorded in seven restless days in a small basement in Loddefjord, Norway. Exploring personal experiences such as his anxiety of the future, remorse over the past, and the decay and rebirth of relationships, the project attempts to capture life in all of its imposing complexities. Throughout the record, Bindloss’s characteristically slurred lyrics and layered, washed out instrumentation contrast his frank and soulful deliberations about the world as he knows it. Combining folk-inspired string arrangements, piano, and intricate fingerstyle guitar with dynamic and often playful grooves, the result is an aesthetic that is intimate and exciting as the stories it underlies.
