REPOST from @orangecountysoccer club: Since 1993 SOY has empowered the youth of Newport Mesa to make positive decisions in life through a variety of programs including college scholarships, academic, dance, art & music, Health & fitness, and student empowerment. Even now with SOY closed, SOY is providing virtual tutoring, college prep, college orientation workshops as well as mental health workshops. SOY is also getting kids outdoors with socially distanced hikes and bike rides. Thank you SOY for all you do for OC teens. SOY Alumni Joselyn Sanchez and Victor Jimenez spoke their truth last night at the Costa Mesa City Council Meeting. Joselyn spoke about enforcing the city ordinance to wear masks in order to save lives, and Victor spoke about the effects of COVID on his community and the lack of funding for low-wage workers and their families. Thanks to @chavez4citycouncil, who is a SOY Alumnus, the students prepared their public comment speeches in the SOY Leadership Academy led by Manuel. These students spoke at a public meeting for the first time! Way to go @_joselynssanchez and @victorjacintoo!! We are proud of you!
