#Repost Santa Ana Unified School District Ernesto Cisneros, a teacher from Mendez Fundamental, has received statewide honors for his book Efrén Divided, which tells the story of a boy whose life is changed when his mother is deported to Mexico. Cisneros, a Santa Ana High School alum, received the Golden Poppy Award from the California Independent Booksellers Alliance in the category of Best Middle-Grade Book of 2020 in California.... I just know that there are a lot of Santa Ana children who have been separated from parents or other loved ones and could use a book to let them know that they are not alone and that they have allies within their community, specifically our school district, Cisneros said. In addition to their focus on arts integration into core subjects, Sierra Prep also offers music, drama, visual arts, and a guitar making workshop! During the 2019-2020 school year, Sierra Prep engaged staff in various arts-focused professional development including a STEAM Art workshop, @VisualThinkingStrategies Facilitation, and a @UCLAr...tsHealing Art Workshop. They also completed a school-wide Arts Challenge, engagingstudents, parents and staff in collaborative drawing. This event facilitated students working side-by-side with teachers and parents, creating a team-oriented, equitable atmosphere.
