After a pandemic hiatus for a year, Sausalito's legendary Jazz & Blues by the Bay concerts resume TONIGHT in Gabrielson Park. The inaugural concert features Joe Tate & The Hippie Voices -- 6:30 PM. No food or beverage booths yet, so BYO....OR swing by our bookshop which is just a block away and pick up one of our GOURMET PICNICS to go, a couple of craft BEERS or a bottle of WINE (we have a great selection!) We'll happily provide cups, napkins and all the accoutrements. No fuss, no muss. We've also got homemade cookies & Fiorello's artisan gelato in cups. FYI -- we will be staying open late EVERY FRIDAY night through August to accommodate our friends at JAZZ by the BAY. Come by and say "Hi!".

THE EXILES was one of last year's most highly touted new novels. Written by NY Times bestselling author Christina Baker Kline (award winning author of "The Orphan Train") it chronicles the journey of three young woman -- two from the British Isles who are sent to a penal colony in Australia; one a native Aboriginal. A sweeping epic tale of 19th century Australia, it is a tribute to the fortitude & resilience of women in a challenging new land. To celebrate the paperback relea...se of the novel, her publisher, Harper Collins, is staging a virtual event to support independent bookstores like us. The event features Christina and some of her fellow writers all of whom I also admire. In other words, it promises to be well worth the price of admission which is simply buying the paperback book from us ($16.99) The book alone is well worth it -- it's a wonderful read. SO -- you get a great book, a great event and you support your great independent bookstore. Call, email or visit us and pre-order the paperback (it publishes July 6th) and we'll give you the link to join the event. See more

Swing by tomorrow afternoon at 4 PM for what promises to be a lively book launch celebration. West Marin author Gail Reitano will be celebrating the publication of her first novel ITALIAN LOVE CAKE. She'll be discussing the book AND we'll be toasting her with Prosecco as well as indulging in a "real" Italian Love Cake. If you like Elena Ferrante's writing you will love Gail's book about an Italian- American woman in the late 1930's on the verge of WWII. It is a touching profile of the immigrant experience and a young woman who is struggling to keep a family business afloat while seeking self-expression and independence. A great read.
