**SHOW UP AND SHARE** Sheriff Ahern has conducted unlawful ICE transfers!! Join community members and advocates for the third TRUTH Act forum in Alameda County to demand transparency and accountability! If we uphold our values, we’ll move Alameda County forward together. http://bit.ly/DemandTheTruth510... Under the TRUTH Act, any jurisdiction that has allowed ICE access in the past year is required to hold a community forum bringing transparency to local jail entanglement with immigration enforcement. At #AlamedaTruthForum2020, we’re calling on the Sheriff and the Board of Supervisors to end all collaboration with ICE. Regardless of a community member’s convictions, they are valued and should not be funneled to ICE, which could be a death sentence. Collaborating with ICE is one of the many things the Sheriff spends money on that ends up harming communities of color and immigrant communities. For this reason, we participate in this forum in solidarity with the many Alameda community racial justice organizations and their demands to #DefundThePolice & #DefundTheSheriff, and invest in Black communities.
Decarcerate Alameda County (DAC) organized to win significant budget demands this weekpreventing cuts to healthcare and permanently cutting 12 sheriff positions. The County also cut $11.9M to public protections departments (sheriff, district attorney, probation, fire, and public defender). The Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday to close a $72.9 million budget gap, resulting from reduced revenues from the State of California. The sheriff's department likely took the bigges...t hit in cuts and we know this would not have happened without the months of calls, mobilizations, and public engagement from coalition members of DAC. Thank you for fighting with us! Let's keep organizing to build a robust community-base mental health care system that prioritizes care over punishment. #DefundtheSheriff #CareNotCages #HomesNotHarm #FreeSRJ Justice Reinvestment Coalition of Alameda County Sunrise Movement Bay AreaCausa Justa Just CauseElla Baker Center for Human RightsCommunities United for Restorative Youth JusticeAnti Police-Terror Project
