The County of Santa Barbara wants to hear from YOU! The County is looking for feedback on the Active Transportation Plan (ATP). The goal of the ATP is to improve mobility and accessibility for all modes of transportation across the county. A community hearing is happening to hear from those in Santa Ynez (June 30th), Gaviota to Hope Ranch (July 1st), and Santa Maria Valley (July 15th). If you are interested in participating, register here. https://fehrandpeers.zoom.us//re/WN_N8iPmUMTRg-BjY3_Lqo4FQ
Bike Camp in Carpinteria taking place this week! Multi-modal transportation is a very important skill that was taught to our campers this week during our summer camp. Santa Barbara MTD stopped by to teach the campers how to load and unload bikes from the bus. Campers also got to explore new places on bikes around Carpinteria.
SBBIKE made a guest appearance at the Santa Ynez YMCA summer camp teaching students how to ride bikes. The camp ran from June 14 to 18 for ages 4 - 12. Students learned ABC quick checks, head-to-toe checks, and rules of the road. We even had 4 kids learn to ride for the first time! SBBIKE is looking forward to collaborating with the YMCA in the future.
Santa Barbara County Association of Governments is hosting multiple brainstorming sessions for the new Active Transportation Plan. These video sessions will let community members learn more about the county's efforts and make comments. All meetings will be held from 5:30-7:30. -Lompoc Valley-June 17, 2021 -Cuyama-June 23, 2021 -Santa Ynez Valley-June 30, 2021 -South Coast North-July 1, 2021... -Santa Maria Valley-July 15, 2021 https://sbco.mysocialpinpoint.com/atphome

Good lane positioning is key to be more visible and improve your safety.
On Sunday, in Buellton.
We’re always critical of teens for spending time on their phones, but the second they go outside and cause a little ruckus, people complain, Harvey said. These are largely good kids growing up in an increasingly aging community. As someone who grew up here, I know it can be a little boring. But there’s nothing illegal about doing a wheelie. We want to promote a community where everybody feels safe and where our kids are allowed to be kids. https://www.sonomanews.com//ride-or-die-sonoma-bike-life/
Your donation will teach a child to ride. https://www.sbbike.org/donate

Uber wanted to get out of the bike business, so a Mexico City cyclist group took 1,600 bikes off the company’s hands. It’s a good thing they did elsewhere in the world, Uber just sent them to the scrap heap. https://www.theverge.com//uber-jump-bike-mexico-city-recla
This new wave of wheelies is the self-labeled #bikelife movement.

Domestic manufacturers are dependent on foreign corporations, which increases supply chain fragility in the bicycle industry, contributing to bike shortages and anemic domestic production. Corporations like Japan’s Shimano have near monopolies on some parts. Even though some US bike manufacturers build their products domestically, they have to import most of their components. Shimano has a 70 percent global market share of bicycle brakes and gears and 50 percent of the bicycle components market. This concentration makes the supply chain extremely fragile. https://www.wired.com//opinion-a-plan-to-fix-the-us-bike-/
