Thanks to everyone who came out to donate blood! The drive was a success and we hoping to do it again, at least once or twice a year. A big thank you to Santa Margarita Community Church for sponsoring the portable toilet and the Santa Margarita Fire Department for the use of the parking lot. These were major logistical hurdles and their help made the blood drive possible.

Hello Friends and Neighbors, I want to reach out and make sure you are aware of the Lions Club sponsored blood drive on 6/12. We really need people to make appointments with Vitalant (either online or called in), otherwise they will cancel the blood mobile. Anyone 16 (with parental consent) and older can donate. Please consider signing up. There is always a need for whole blood donations, especially as we go into the summer months with people traveling and becoming more active. It's really easy to sign up, just use the QR code on the flyer picture, go to Vitalant.org and look for the June 12th blood drive listing, or give them a call at 805 542-8500. UPDATE: We are out of kits! Thank you for your interest. So grateful for the donations as well. Please remember to bring your skull to the demo alter at the Santa Margarita Community Hall on 11/1 and/or post your pictures with your skull number by 11/3 to be entered into the drawing for a gift certificate to The Porch. The Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos), is a Mexican holiday where families honor the lives of their deceased loved ones with music, food, drink, and ...crafts as part of the celebration. The celebration begins November 1st at 12am and ends on Nov 2nd at midnight. Three of the many crafts that are practiced for the celebration are sugar skull decorating, tissue flower making, and building an altar with your loved ones’ photos. As part of the Santa Margarita Lions Club Kindness Matters project, Lion Dee Limon has prepared sugar skull kits to help families in our community participate in this cultural event. You can pick up a kit on Friday, October 23rd at our Santa Margarita Lions Club Booth by JJ’s Restaurant during Cruise Night (while supplies last). Display your decorated skull by posting a photo on our Facebook page, @SantaMargaritaLions. Additionally, we will have a demonstration altar in the front of the community hall from Nov. 1 - Nov. 2 where you can display your skull. Each kit will have a number that will be assigned to your name when picking up. Please include this number in your photo post. If you display your sugar skull, you will be entered into a drawing for a gift card to the Porch. See more

Santa Margarita Lions Club Soup Feed and Toy/Food Drive Soup service will start at 5pm. We will be set up outside Santa Margarita Community Church. Turn right into the first driveway as you go east on I Street. For those who wish to contribute, we will be collecting toys and non-perishable food items behind the church as you go through the parking lot. You will receive your soup as you approach the exit to I Street. There is a choice of vegan minestrone or chicken noodle soup. Please be prepared to tell the server how many and what kind of soup. You may want to bring a box to put the soup containers in. We will be giving you a goody bag with song lyrics, utensils and a flashlight as well. We will continue to serve until the soup is gone. The soup is free, donations are not necessary but appreciated.
