Santa Barbara Middle School

We seek a dynamic and talented teacher who enjoys secondary education and who can teach a variety of Spanish courses at the Jr. High and High school level. An ability to teach AP level courses is a plus.

After a two year break, we were finally able to have an SBMS Auction this past Saturday. The theme was Where Rock Star Meets Festival and it was wildly successful in so many ways. It raised funds for the school and most importantly it brought the SBMS community/family together to connect and to celebrate.

We are so excited to have another alum back on campus helping out our faculty and staff. Everyone give a warm welcome to Anya! "Hi everyone! My name is Anya and I am so excited to be here at SBMS. I went here from sixth through ninth grade and graduated in 2015. SBMS helped me to find my love for adventure and traveling, and since then I have done multiple study abroad programs in Central America and Europe. I am now at Santa Barbara City College and working towards getting ...my degree in Political Science. Some of my hobbies include doing art, making music, and meeting new people! Some of my duties here include taking temperatures in the morning, helping out in the office, and proctoring and subbing classes. I would love to connect with you all and am always open to making new friends! If you have not met Harmony yet, make sure to say hi next time you are on campus! She has joined the team as our new Development/Admin Associate. Here's a bit more about her: I have lived in Santa Barbara for 20+ years, however, I grew up in Kauai, Alaska, and Guam. I have two spirited children, ages ten and five. They currently attend Goleta Family School. I love beach volleyball, cooking, gardening, photography and raising money for worthy causes. I used to have a wedding... videography business, however, after having children I switched careers and started doing non-profit development work. I have a degree from the University of Hawaii in Environmental Studies, Eco-Tourism. The pandemic silver lining for me was getting this (dream) job. There isn’t a week since I started that I haven’t been moved to happy tears by witnessing the talent, passion and care that the staff shows towards the students and with each other. "For thousands of years, we have gathered in a circle - around fires, around bodies, around altars - because we can't do this alone..." In an effort to provide a sincere and authentic middle school experience, 8th graders circled around a ""fire"" with their camp chairs and a short story they had written about a brief moment in their life to share with their cohort. An important element of English class is the power to write, tell and share a story and to connect. #sbms #english #academics

Today we delivered a sleigh full of donated toys and books for the kids that Domestic Violence Solution (DVS) serves. A big heartfelt thanks to our SBMS community for their outpouring of generosity. An abundance of love and really fun toys will fill the stockings of some lucky kids this holiday. Keep up the giving spirit and jump on your bikes this weekend and track your Strava miles! Remember that for each mile you ride the goal is that you will donate a non perishable item to the Food Bank of Santa Barbara. Our goal is 2021 miles and/or cans by mid January.

Today each 8th Grade cohort hiked a different peak around our beautiful home and at the top read surprise letters of love and gratitude from their families and friends.
