Are you interested in the history of jazz music? Jazz in America may be for you! Jazz in America" is a historical survey of the development and evolution of jazz in America from its earliest roots in African and European music. ... The study will also include the social and economic conditions which influenced this art form. There are two options for this class, online or on campus (depending on California State Regulations) Jazz in America ONLINE OPTION: MUS-103 (Section 95488) 3 Units 2/8/21-4/4/21 (8 weeks) This course is completely online. Asynchronous (No meetings) ZTC (Zero Textbook Cost) ON CAMPUS OPTION (depending on California State Regulations) MUS-103 (Section 95485) 3 Units 2/9/21-6/3/21 (16 Weeks) On Campus (Phillips Hall Theatre, P-100) OR Remote Live/Zoom (depending on California State Regulations) Synchronous- Meets Tuesday/Thursday, 11:55am-1:20pm ZTC (Zero Textbook Cost) https://sac.edu/Pages/default.aspx Questions? Please contact Michael Briones at: [email protected] Michael Briones is an experienced professional trombonist who has performed with artists such as the Backstreet Boys, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, Matthew Morrison from Glee, and Earl Klugh. He has performed at the Hollywood Bowl and at several major jazz festivals, including the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival. His TV appearances include The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, The Voice, as well as appearing in The Muppet Movie. His touring extends from U.S. and Canada to Europe, Japan, and Indonesia. Briones earned his Bachelor of Music from California State University, Long Beach, and his Master of Music from Azusa Pacific University, studying music performance at both schools. He coaches at several high schools in and out of Santa Ana, has given several master classes, and has several students who have achieved honor groups, including the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Briones has worked at Santa Ana College since 2013 and has been involved with Santa Ana College since 2000. He coordinates Instrumental Music groups at SAC as well as the Applied Music program. He is the director for the SAC Big Band Jazz and SAC Concert Band.

Hello Jazz Musicians! Looking for a fun virtual jazz ensemble? The Santa Ana College Big Band Jazz is now accepting students.... Join us as we create a virtual jazz ensemble which will feature various styles of jazz music. The production will be featured at the Santa Ana College Music Department Showcase on Facebook Live, Saturday, May 29th, 2021, 7:30pm. This is a great opportunity to participate in a virtual jazz ensemble with a high level of jazz music. This is also a great place to practice secondary instruments, as students are encouraged to play multiple instruments. The class is designed for musicians with previous playing experience.
