Remember our Veterans Via a Virtual Memorial Day Observance Video! MONDAY MAY 31, 2021 As we continue to battle the COVID-19 virus, we are slowly starting to see a return to normalcy with schools and businesses... gradually reopening. At this time, however, the District feels it would be unwise to hold a large gathering where hundreds of people are close together with social distancing almost impossible to achieve. Our Veterans, however, will not be forgotten! Watch Our Virtual Memorial Day Observance Video! We have reached out to many of the organizations that faithfully participate in our Memorial Day Observances and asked them to record a short video segment that will be combined to create a virtual Memorial Day Program. The video will be available to view over the entire Memorial Day Weekend on the District’s website as well as on our Facebook pages. On Facebook, simply search for: Orange County Cemetery District, Anaheim Cemetery, Santa Ana Cemetery, or El Toro Memorial Park. So far, our virtual program will include: vocal performances by soloist John Huntington and the Orange High School Chamber Singers; Memorial Day Remarks by Mayor Sarmiento of Santa Ana, Mayor Murphy of Orange, and Mayor Kelley of Mission Viejo; an Honor Guard Firing Salute from VFW Post 6024 with Commander Bob Franzwa, Rene Macare, Clark Courtney, and A.J. Summa; a reading of General Logan’s Order by Darrell Rivers of the Huntington Beach Historical Society; and a wreath presentation by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War at Santa Ana Cemetery’s Soldier’s Monument. Bagpiper, Jim Clements will perform Amazing Grace, and Taps will be performed by Boy Scout Michael McPhie of Troop 2020. The Mission Viejo Chapter DAR will also provide opening and closing remarks. In addition, the District has received multiple requests from Scout Troops and other volunteers to help place flags on every Veteran’s grave at all three cemeteries in advance of the of the holiday. Thank you to all our Veterans who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom! And, thanks to all those striving to make sure our Veterans are remembered! The Orange County Cemetery District along with Santa Ana Cemetery, Anaheim Cemetery and El Toro Memorial Park will be closed Friday Feburary 12th and Monday February 15th in observance of Lincoln's Birthday and Presidents Day. These are both county holidays. Will return on Tuesday February 16th, 2021... Thank you

Our offices will be closed on Monday January 18th in observance of Martin Luther King Day. Cemetery is open for visitation 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM All 3 cemetery offices will reopen on Tuesday January 19th.

Wednesday November 11, 2020 is Veterans Day. Sadly our Veterans Day service has been canceled. (we hope to be back next year.) But all the flags are out for our veterans. Thanks to the scouts and our staff.... The cemeteries will be open for visitation 8:00 - 5:00 PM. The offices will be closed and reopening on Thursday morning. Dia de los Muertos - Day of the Dead is today. Due to Covid 19 celebrations at Santa Ana Cemetery and Anaheim Cemetery have been cancelled. The cemeteries are open today 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for visitation. Come celebrate with your families and place your marigolds and ofrenda's. ... We hope to see you again next year for our celebrations. SANTA ANA CEMETERY WILL BE CLOSED THIS FRIDAY AUGUST 28TH. Ben's Asphalt will be conducting the final slurry throughout the entire cemetery to seal all the new asphalt roads. Please DO NOT attempt to walk into Santa Ana Cemetery from Fairhaven Memorial Park as all roads will be impacted. ... If you need to reach the cemetery office please call the office at 714-953-2959. This will be the first time in a decade that Darrell Rivers has not delivered an address at the Orange County Cemetery District’s Memorial Day Commemoration so he recorded it instead. _________________________________________________ Memorial Day began after the Civil War as Decoration Day, a holiday commemorated by the Grand Army of the Republic, the fraternal organisation of Union Civil War veterans. Decoration Day was inspired by many acts of respect and patriotism surro...unding soldiers’ graves including notable cases with former slaves going out of their way to decorate and protect Union soldiers’ graves in the American South. General Logan’s General Order Number 11 was issued on the 5th of May 1868. This is the 1st time we have EVER cancelled Memorial Day services. The scouts helped putting out the flags and the park is open for you to come visit. Will miss you this year....
