On Saturday Nov 2, 2019, San Mateo Nippon Gakuyen, celebrated it’s 100th anniversary. It was founded in 1919 by immigrants who wanted their kids to learn Japanese language and culture. While it shut down briefly during WW II due to the forced relocation to the infamous internment camps, the school reopened after the war. Today, it has become one of the largest Japanese school in the Bay Area with over 170 diverse students from many background and cultures. For the celebration, the school received Japan’s Foreign Minister’s Commendation, Proclamation by City of San Mateo, recognition by U.S. Congress House of Representatives, and congratulatory message from many organizations including San Mateo's sister city of Toyonaka

SMNG Last week was SMNG Annual picnic athletic competition. Congrats to the red team for the win. The white team did a great job as well!

San Mateo Nippon Gakuyen, founded in 1919, is holding our centennial celebrating this year. We have been celebrating this very special year throughout this year with many school events.
