San Mateo Lions Club

On June 14, 2021, the District 4-C4 Peninsula Council of Lions Clubs held a joint virtual presentation of their 55th and 56th Annual Police & Fire Awards. The PCL honors Police & Fire heroes serving in the communities of San Mateo Country and City of Palo Alto, in Service, Valor, and Heroism. In each category, there is an Area Wide Winner. The Peninsula Council of Lions Clubs includes all Lions Clubs in San Mateo County and the City of Palo Alto, California. The PCL Board is an elected district committee of District 4-C4 of Lions Clubs International, comprising of past presidents of the Lions clubs of the Council. The PCL board holds monthly meetings for clubs of the Council to gather to share ideas, coordinate activities, and engage in fellowship with each other, in addition to this annual Police & Fire Awards event.

The San Mateo Lions are embarking on an amazing service program, vision screening of children, using the Spot camera. Last month six San Mateo Lions attended a vision screening performed by the San Bruno Lions Club, to receive in-person training on using the light-refracting camera, also known as "Spot" on school children. The camera detects vision abnormalities within seconds of pointing at the student's eyes. The Lions screened nearly 150 students which resulted in over 20 referrals - students who will require a vision test by an optometrist. The San Mateo Lions look forward to establishing a vision screening program for San Mateo schools and preschools.
