#flashbackfriday 2011. Prior to operation ‘Cobra Gold’ an intensive training cycle kicked off on the South Korean Peninsula. Three of the Maneuver battalions in a BCT charged my sniper section with a month long OpFor mission (opposing force) designed with the task of exposing and exploiting their weaknesses in the field. Basically my boys and I played the bad guys for a month. Sleeping during the day, re-fitting, and then operating at night. The first two weeks were strictly ...reconnaissance, no shots fired. Followed by harassment. But it was week four when all hell broke lose at the battalion sized FOBs. We had no rules other than the SOP created for my section by us. Thinking like the bad guy is an amazing bit of training; very powerful. In pic 2 you can see some my baby snipers, team 1 in particular assisting with the planning. And yup when I went full field expedient sand table in pic 3 that is indeed 100% an antenna from a captured HMMWV. From the BN commander of one of the units Gentleman I’ve learned something. Current situation on a Friday night. Get out and train. Still Under 2 months Post shoulder surgery. The mobility is coming back. The point of this though is TRAIN. Whatever your craft may be it doesn’t matter. If self defense is your job or interest however, training is a must. To be in possession of a deadly object and not practice is irresponsible.
