San Luis Rey Watershed Council 19.04.2021

Today is #NationalFossilDay & the celebrate how cool fossils are, we decided to do a #ThrowbackThursday photo from when the fossils of a Bison latifrons was discovered by CalTrans in the corner of Highway 76 & I-15, back in 2013. This giant bison lived over 100,000 years ago and was bigger than a VW bug!! The fossils are now displayed at the San Diego Natural History Museum.

Saturday Morning Hike Get out this weekend & check out this awesome park in our watershed Wilderness Gardens County Preserve. On this guided tour through the County’s first open space preserve, a ranger will discuss the fascinating history of the area. Places of historic significance include a grinding stone used by Native Americans and one of the first grist mills in Southern California. Learn about the land, its wildlife and why it was such a lucrative location for early... settlers. This 1.5-mile walk is easy and family friendly.
