In third world countries girls often have to leave school when they get periods because there aren’t proper bathroom facilities for them. I believe Trans women should have all the rights of biological women (or whatever the right term is at the moment) but they did not grow up wit...h the struggles we had. They had their own struggles, different ones. Having a period was a fucking nightmare for me, it made my life a misery for one week a month from the age of 10 to 50! Pain, nausea, flailing emotions, shame and humiliation, terrified of accidents, missing out on things... Do our shared experiences growing up female suddenly not matter? If me wanting my experiences recognized makes me transphobic, then that means anyone trying to dismiss my experiences as inconsequential are MISOGYNISTS. How’s that feel? Being a woman is more than just our secondary sexual characteristics. Aside from the biological bullshit (birth control, anyone?!) there’s growing up with systematic sexism and misogyny - not just from the outside world, but often from within our own families! These are experiences all biological women have had to face to some degree. They aren’t nothing. Seems like Jezebel and others are saying Transwomen’s feelings/experiences matter more than the feelings and experiences of people with uteruses. I have trans friends and a trans family member, and I support (most) of the cause, but you will *never* know what it was like to grow up female, and it’s insulting and hurtful to say that our experiences are irrelevant. It really pisses me off!!! But being raised female, I’m very uncomfortable expressing anger.
