Was he out on bail when he failed to appear? How much? If not, why? The two most important facts for a bench warrant news story...

Every DUI police report disingenuously states that suspects sway back and forth and it’s your right to refuse a preliminary breath test in the field. Scientifically speaking, one is presumed NOT impaired for any BAC under .05%(like Bruce was), so let this hyperbolic story end. If the legislature wanted to outlaw driving after drinking ANY alcohol, then let them do so. Police in DUI investigations are like hammers and so being, everything looks like a nail.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operations Plan for San Francisco with OTS Grant on February 2nd and 18th --------------------------------------------...--------------------- The San Francisco Police Department will conduct Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations on February 2nd and 18th with a focus on bicycle and pedestrian safety. Over the past four years, the department has identified areas where significant numbers of pedestrian and bicycle-related collisions have occurred and responded by deploying additional officers to those areas in an effort to prevent deaths and injuries. Special attention will be given to Focus on the Five violations: speeding, making illegal turns, failing to stop for stop signs and red lights, failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, as well as any other dangerous violation. San Francisco is committed to eliminating traffic deaths on our streets as part of Vision Zero SF. Vision Zero SF is our city’s commitment to prioritize safe streets for everyone. Bicycle and pedestrian fatalities are rising in California as more people use these non-motorized means of transportation. In 2016, California witnessed 867 pedestrians and 147 bicyclists killed, accounting for more than 28 percent of all traffic fatalities. All riders are reminded to always wear a helmet those under 18 years of age must wear helmets by law. Pedestrians should cross the street only in marked or unmarked crosswalks at corners. All motorists are reminded to be mindful of others who share the road. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. ----------------------------------------------------------------- **21-022**

08/21 DUI Saturation Stats Remember our DUI Saturation Patrol last Friday? We certainly do, and we’d love to share what our officers did that night... ... Friday night's DUI saturation was successful. 6 officers deployed in 4 cars made 34 traffic stops among responding to calls for service. 15 field sobriety tests were administered, 5 preliminary alcohol screen tests were administered, 1 felony warrant arrest was made, 2 vehicles towed (relating to DUI offenses), and 2 DUI arrests were made. With the arrests, both drivers were involved in collisions. One driver was involved in an injury vehicle collision and was located by a DUI saturation officer. She was arrested for 20001(a) CVC (felony hit and run causing injury), 21453(a) CVC (red light) and 23153(a) CVC (DUI causing injury). The other driver was involved in a solo roll-over collision and was arrested for 23152(a) CVC (DUI), 23152(b) CVC (DUI over .08+ BAC), 14601.2(a) CVC (suspended license from prior DUI). 1203.2(a) PC (probation violation), and 20002(a) CVC (hit and run property damage). The warrant arrest made was from a traffic stop made by a DUI officer who determined the driver was wanted on a felony warrant for evading the police. Lastly, it did not result in an arrest (yet) but a vehicle fled from officers after a vehicle stop was initiated. A police report was written and about 12 hours later, the vehicle was located and towed (unoccupied) with a hold for CSI. #sf #sfpd #sanfrancisco #bayarea #california #police #lawenforcement #drivesober #dui #notworthit #drivesoberorgetpulledover #policeofficer #policecars #dodgecharger #police_usa See more

Checkpoint Tonight #SFPD’s Traffic Company will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint this Friday, January 31, 2020 at an undisclosed location within the ci...ty limits between the hours of 8:00 PM and 2:30 AM. The deterrent effect of sobriety checkpoints is a proven strategy in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized sobriety checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are routinely conducted. Nationally, the latest data shows nearly 10,000 people were killed by an impaired driver. #sf #sanfrancisco #california #superbowl #drivesafe #drivesober #duicheckpoint #police #sfpd See more

SFPD DUI & Driver's License Checkpoint Happening January 31st, 2020 8 PM - 2:30 AM... San Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Company will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint this Friday, January 31, 2020, at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 8:00 P.M. and 2:30 A.M. In 2017, 1,120 people were killed in alcohol-involved crashes on California roads. Last year the SFPD investigated 212 DUI collisions and made a total of 339 DUI arrests. Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than for alcohol (7.3 percent). Marijuana was the most prevalent drug, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol. DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests. Officers participating in the checkpoint will delay motorists only momentarily. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment and ensuring that drivers are properly licensed. Specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Nearly 90 percent of California drivers approve of DUI checkpoints. The San Francisco Police Department reminds drivers that DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze. If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI. The SFPD offers these reminders to ensure you have a safe night of fun that doesn’t involve a DUI: Always use a designated sober driver a friend who is not drinking, ride-share, cab or public transportation to get home. See someone who is clearly impaired try and drive? Take the keys and help them make other arrangements to find a sober way home. Report drunk drivers Call 911. Hosting a party? Offer nonalcoholic drinks. Monitor who is drinking and how they are getting home. Getting home safely is cheap, but getting a DUI is not! Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be upwards of $13,500. This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension, and other expenses not to mention possible jail time. Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the San Francisco Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Everyone is reminded to ‘Report Drunk Drivers Call 9-1-1’. **20-009**
