Thanks to All Who Made Garden Feast a Success! Together we raised $400,000 to support our youth education programs and extraordinary plant collections! It was wonderful to gather in the beautiful Celebration Garden, which hosted Garden Feast for the first time. Our special guest speaker Robin Wall Kimmerer inspired generosity, learning, and a shared love of plants. A special thank you goes out to our amazing Champion Sponsors Delle Maxwell and Pat Hanrahan and co-chair...s Sarah Ryan and Saul Nadler, the whole event committee and all our generous sponsors! We are also grateful to the more than 60 volunteers who gave their valuable time to this event! We deeply appreciate everyone's contributions! See you in the Garden soon! : Drew Altizer Photography #sfbotanicalgarden #gardenfeast #braidingsweetgrass #robinwallkimmerer #fundraiser #supportlocal See more

Fall Vibes California fuchsia (Epilobium canum) blooming in the Native Plant Garden with California goldenbush (Ericameria ericoides) fluffy seed heads, big-cone Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga macrocarpa), and more providing a beautiful backdrop Chinese tulip tree (Liriodendron chinense) framed by Loropetalum foliage and palm fronds in Temperate Asia... Japanese maples, magnolias, gingko, flowering cherry, and Liriodendron all starting to show fall color in Temperate Asia Though we tend to think of conifers as evergreen, there are a handful of conifers that are deciduousHere is one, golden-larch (Pseudolarix amabilis) in Temperate Asia. If you’re unfamiliar with deciduous conifers, they can cause quite a shock come fall when their needles begin to change color and fall from the tree. This is often an adaptation to extreme habitats as many deciduous conifers are found in areas such as swamps or alpine zones. Protea repens flowering in the South Africa Garden along with several other proteas Tree daisies (Montanoa spp.) from southern Mexico through Central America have begun to flower and their abundant, cheery, fragrant flowers are not to be missed Verbena bonariensis provides some late season flowers in the Zellerbach Garden of Perennials Chinese sweet gum (Liquidambar formosana) adding to the early, subtle fall colors indicating the seasonal shift in Temperate Asia Fascicularia bicoloranother beautiful terrestrial bromeliad from Chilecascading down the admittedly drab, battered, beige cinderblock wall in the Entry Garden is always a welcomed fall surprise #sfbotanicalgarden #fall #fallvibes #fallcolors #fallfoliage #fallflowers #autumn #autumnal #sunsetstroll #californianativeplants See more

Looking for something outdoors for your K-4 student to do in the afternoons once distance learning is over? Our Garden After-School Program could be a perfect fit and registration for our next session is now open! This drop-off program begins at 1pm (with a late drop-off option for students who still have class) and runs until 4:30pm, allowing students over three hours of outdoor socializing with others their age. Operating in pods no bigger than 10 and wearing masks, stude...nts are able to explore the Garden in groups with at least two counselors. All of our activities stem from our four pillars - Gardening, Ecology, Art, and Wellness. From these, students will play games, make art, and learn about all about what makes our beautiful Botanical Garden so unique. Our students leave the Garden dirty, exhausted, and excited to come back! Details and registration can be found online at sfbg.org/afterschool. We hope to see you there! #sfbotanicalgarden #afterschool #outdooreducation #getoutside See more

In coastal California, there is minimal natural fall color, so the best locations to see fall foliage are public gardens or arboretums. Poimiroo recommends Golden Gate Park at the Japanese Tea Garden and San Francisco Botanical Garden Via SFGATE

Fall colors are a little different here... happy autumnal equinox! Fresh air, sunshine, and late bloomers await you in the Garden on this beautiful first day of fall. Come take a break and relax. Aloe pluridens in the Succulent Garden and Leonitis leonurus and Nerine bowdenii in the South Africa Garden are just a few of the many late blooming plants throughout the Garden. More traditional fall colors are subtlety starting to show now, too, and will increase as we proceed... into the seasonwe’ll keep y’all posted! #sfbotanicalgarden #fallequinox #autumn #fall #fallflowers #fallcolors See more
