Did you know that DMV is 100 years old this year? The first DMV office was opened February of 1915 in the California state Secretary's office with only 2 employees! Now DMV has about 174 field offices with over 10,000 employees! Talk about evolution. Happy 100th anniversary DMV!

Vehicle Industry News states that the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) temporarily exempted smog certification for certain hybrid vehicles pending the statewide implementation of appropriate testing equipment. BAR has now repealed that exemption. Recent legislation authorized BAR to adopt a new on-board diagnostic testing equipment for California's smog check test program. Bar has specified that hybrid vehicles WILL BE subject to the same smog check inspection requirements and exemptions as gas-powered vehicles. So as of today, April 16, 2015, hybrids WILL need to be smoged! you can find out smog requirements at www.smogcheck.ca.gov or by calling 1-800-952-5210.

Did you know that nearly half-of-a-million Californians have applied for a driver license under Assembly Bill 60 (AB 60) since January 2, 2015! 493,998 to be exact, as of April 3, 2015. The DMV website reports that 28,163 applications potentially requiring additional review such as clearing up duplicate records or other administrative process before license application may proceed. It takes more time to obtain a license through Secondary Review Referral because qualified DMV employees must personally interview the applicant and review documentation that is not immediately electronically verifiable. California is the FIRST state in the nation to offer this opportunity to obtain a license even when the applicant lacks the necessary documentation.
