"A big shoutout to my entire team for how hard they have worked throughout the pandemic to manage increased challenges and stressors with our youth and families, as well as the increased personal stressors they have faced. Through it all they continue to show up for each other as a team and for our youth and families to provide crucially needed services to some of our county’s most vulnerable youth!" ~ Nicole Egan, program manager, I CARE. I CARE supports youth, up to age 21, who are at risk for or have experienced sex trafficking or other commercial sexual exploitation. For more information, visit sdyouthservices.org//child-sex-trafficking-awareness-and-r.

A big congratulations to this year's Dinosaur School graduates! Drive-up graduations were held at each of our five elementary school sites and we had a total of 65 students graduating from our virtual groups that began in March. Dino School is part of our East County Prevention and Early Intervention program and helps children increase their school readiness, teach them to regulate their emotions and develop social competence so that they stay and succeed in school.
On June 19,1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. Celebration of this day dates back all the way to 1865, and the oldest known celebrations commemorating the end of slavery. The name "Juneteenth" is combining the two words making up June nineteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day. Inspired by the words of Angela Davis & the essence of Juneteenth, this collage has been put together to honor this day of celebration, while also acknowledging the continued efforts needed to strive for justice, equality, and freedom in a world where systemic/institutionalized racism and discrimination continues to permeate all levels of society. #Juneteenth

Happy Halloween! This year, our Safe Family Services Team wanted to brighten up our youth’s Halloween, by providing fall and Halloween activities to do while social distancing and staying at home, including pumpkin carving kits, activity books, and packaged cookie mix to bake cookies. We provided plenty of candy to enjoy at home and to make up for cancelations of trick-or-treat events, along with Halloween enrichments for the infant children of our youth, with items such as b...aby cookies, rattles and pacifiers. Our team had so much fun putting these baskets together for the youth and their children. Safe Family Services provides supportive services to youth ages 18- 24 who are homeless or at risk for homelessness and have experienced domestic violence. For more information, please contact Safe Family Services Program Manager, Nichole Jones, at [email protected]
