Join us for another amazing conversation with SDSU and JMS alum Tina Sturdevant! Tina serves as the Talent, Diversity and Inclusion Director for the subscription-based sports media company, The Athletic. Tina plays a key role on the company's talent team and is responsible for all newsroom diversity and inclusion efforts, including supporting and promoting existing talent, helping build talent pipelines consisting of diverse voices, and bolstering the work being led by The At...hletic Communities, the company’s newsroom advocacy groups. Tina has more than 10 years of sports media experience. She was most recently a consultant to Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in San Francisco where she supported student engagement with diverse journalism organizations throughout the Bay Area. Previously, she spent six and a half years at Bleacher Report where she held the position of Senior Manager of Media and Talent for four years before tackling the role of Senior Manager of Experiential Marketing. In these roles, Tina led the company’s diversity brand awareness and recruiting efforts, managed day-to-day media obligations for Bleacher Report’s top talent, and helped lead the company’s diversity and inclusion efforts from inception. To start her career, Tina worked in media relations for San Diego State University's athletic department and with the Oakland A's. About Beyond JMS: Launched this spring, beyond JMS is a new, on-going webinar series that seeks to provide opportunities for new insights, knowledge, conversations, and skills for our alumni, students, and professionals in San Diego or around the world. Although focusing on our own graduates and current students, lifelong learners from anywhere are welcome.

Join us for an incredible conversation with SDSU JMS Alum P. Frank Williams. From the Daily Aztec to LA, his career has spanned decades and he is one of our most respected Hollywood insiders. For Williams, it all began by writing love letters for his homies in the hood when he was barely a teen. Since then, Emmy and 8-time NAACP Image winner Williams has become a universally known and respected writer, speaker, teacher and producer. Most recently, he worked as a Co-Executive ...Producer at Critical Content producing the police brutality series Copwatch America for BET. Williams has been an EP at TMZ and was also a producer and co-host with civil rights attorney Ben Crump on the A& E Biography investigative series about Tupac Shakur called Who Killed Tupac? He was the Executive Producer/Showrunner of the Centric/BET Networks docu-series Being. Williams also works as a director and senior producer for TV One's acclaimed Unsung and Unsung Hollywood documentary series. He produces BET’s award- winning series American Gangster and has also produced films like the Paramount Pictures released Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan and the Universal/ Def Jam Records film A Hustlerz Ambition, a documentary about Young Jeezy that aired on MTV2. His other TV writing/producing credits include the NAACP Image Awards on NBC, BETHonors, BET Hip-Hop Awards, BET Awards and the VH1’s Hip Hop Honors. He was on NBC’s Emmy winning team for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. Williams was formerly Executive Editor of The Source Magazine, where he wrote iconic cover stories about Suge Knight, Eazy-E, Tupac Shakur, Dr Dre and many more. And in the mid 1990’s, he was a staff writer at the Los Angeles Times. He is the founder and president of Prophet From It Entertainment, which produces inspirational TV, film, mobile and web content. The Oakland native’s motto is: Why shoot the breeze about it, when you can be about it?
