Meet Dr. Ken Shimizu. He is a radiation oncology doctor who practices in Vista, CA. ``Science is something I have always found interesting. In high school, I developed a fascination with genetics and molecular biology. But I had also always had an interest in helping my community and doing things to benefit others. By the time I was in medical school, these two interests kept leading me toward Radiation Oncology as a specialty. Fighting cancer is both a scientific and human endeavor. My objective is to win the fight by bringing both science and compassion to that struggle. And the truth is that they aren't separate things. The science of fighting cancer definitely involves caring for the people I treat.``

Today we performed our 200th treatment for arteriovenous malformations. Brain AVMs occur in less than 1 percent of the general population.

Meet Kenneth Ott, M.D., FACS. He has treated nearly 2000 patients with benign and malignant brain tumors, trigeminal neuralgia and movement disorders, carrying placement of the head frame and the computer treatment program himself. Dr. Ott also has a very active surgical program for the treatment of intracranial tumors and facial pain as part of the Neurosurgical Medical Clinic.

The combined programs of Scripps Green and Scripps La Jolla were designated as High Performing in cancer, neurology and neurosurgery, rheumatology and urology.
