Important safety message from San Diego Gas & Electric: Adverse weather conditions forecasted for January 14 through January 15 indicate increased wildfire risk that may affect the power lines serving local communities. These conditions may require SDG&E to turn off power to reduce the risk of a wildfire. If power is turned off, it will remain off until conditions are safe for restoration. When possible, SDG&E will notify potentially impacted customers 48 hours in advance of power being turned off. Sign up for notifications at sdge.com/notifications.

Text to 9-1-1 is now available in San Diego County. Call if you can, text if you can't. Calling is still the fastest way to reach 9-1-1. However, there are situations when texting may be the better option: You're deaf, hard of hearing, non-verbal or have difficulty speaking You're in a situation where it's not safe to call 9-1-1 for help such as in a domestic violence situation ... You're having a medical emergency and cannot speak on the phone How does Text to 9-1-1 work? Enter the numbers 911 in the "To" field Give the location and nature of your emergency Send the text message Respond to dispatcher questions and follow instructions #Text911 #Safety4Survivors #Domesticviolenceawareness

Here are some energy-saving tips from SDG&E you can take to reduce your electricity use, especially during peak hours from 4-9 p.m.: 1. Set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, health permitting, and turn your air conditioner off when not at home. Move any furniture blocking vents to be sure air is flowing efficiently. 2. Charge your laptop and cell phone and use large appliances like clothes washers before 3 p.m. or after 9 p.m. 3. Hang dry your clothes instead of using ...your dryer. 4. Unplug energy vampires when not in use, such as televisions, game consoles and coffee makers. 5. Use a fan(s) instead of your air conditioner. 6. Cover your windows to keep sunlight from heating your home. 7. Cook using your stove, microwave or outside grill instead of your oven. 8. Limit opening your refrigerator and freezer doors.
