SUMMER IS HERE! Newport Beach is hoppin'! Once again, it's a busy summer here at "the Sandcastle" on the Peninsula. (We've got the better view, facing the beach:-)
We have had the most incredible sunsets this past month - right at the end of our street! One beautiful - and long - sunset after another. How lucky we are to be able to see this right from our patio!!! Newport Beach, so fantastic! (And that's Catalina Island in the distance, 27 miles out, which isn't always visible.)
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Once again, we joined our friends in Pasadena to view the Rose Bowl Parade, up close and personal. Yes, it was chilly (SoCal chilly, not so bad really), but we braved the brisk weather to enjoy the fabulous floats. What a great way to spend New Year's Day! Wishing you the best of everything in 2015! XOXO, Janice & Bill
WOW! Me and about 2000 of my closest friends headed down to the Wedge on the Newport Peninsula early this morning to see these 25 foot waves. UNBELIEVEABLE! The Wedge is world famous for its size and its danger, but really everywhere up and down the coast is going to be dangerous for the next couple days, Newport Beach Fire Department Capt. Mike Halphide said. We’re really warning everyone coming down, whether you’re a beginner or an expert, to really think twice and talk to a lifeguard before you go in because of the conditions will just be so hazardous, he said.

It's Spring Break time here in Newport Beach, and the "Sandcastle"is booked up...Still have dates available for Memorial Day weekend and Summer 2017 tho! So glad we had time for a recent getaway to Australia - to Adelaide and the Barossa Wine Country, to the Great Barrier Reef and rainforest area, to the Gold Coast for some R&R and a little golfing - and the grand finale in Sydney! An awesome trip! We're back home now - where we're lucky enough to be enjoying our own favorite beach (Newport Beach) right here outside our front door!

CHINESE NEW YEAR in MANILLA & HONG KONG: Recently, we were lucky enough to experience Chinese New Year on New Year's Day in Binondo, Manila's Chinatown neighborhood, and catch the festivities as they began the YEAR of the SHEEP! Then we moved on to Hong Kong, and saw even more Dragon celebrations; the New Year's dragon dances are done outside - and then inside - businesses to bring good luck and prosperity to them in the coming year). ***Janice was born in a year of the Sheep coincidentally...so she's looking to have an especially great year herself too!
Two of the funniest signs we saw while in the Philippine Islands...Don't know which I like better, the Husband Day Care Center sign (for a local bar) or the Watch for Falling Coconuts sign? Just a slice of life there...
Another good vacation, another adventure...this time we went to the Philippines, to Manilla and to several of it's 7000+ islands. The islands were really the highlight of the trip, difficult to get to, but once there, very relaxing. Truly a diver's paradise, and even for us as snorkelers, it was amazing! Ate lots of lapu lapu (local fish), large prawns and pork belly...and drank their local rum and San Miguel beer...
