I get asked all the time about sealing sand brick. For me this is really important. Ok, I know, I'm just a little obsessed about sand bags. This is a reply to that question that came in on Amazon: How is the open end supposed to be closed? You've asked the most important question about sand bags.... Sand bags should never be sealed by tying the end with line or a plastic tie. This leaves gaps between the bags for water to get in. Water in the wall means a weak, leaky wall. This applys both to Sand Bricks and regular sand bags. The opening in the sand bag should be folded over and the sand bag placed on top of it. The weight of the sand holds the the bag closed. When you use a tie, the weight of the sand is always trying to force the bag open. Many bags come with ties. These are great to use when the sand bags are used to hold down signs and other uses but not for blocking water. The way Sand Bricks are designed they are easy to fold the top over and drop in place. However whether you use Sand Bricks or regular bags, use the fold under method and build strong safe walls for your flood protection. John PS All Sand Bricks come with an illustrated instruction sheet and wall building instructions and tips.
