The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, suffered two losses yesterday evening. Deputy Adam Gibson and his K-9, Riley, both died in the line of duty after a shootout. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family friends and colleagues of Gibson and Riley. We have been receiving several calls regarding an active emergency at Tanforan Mall. It appears that there was an equipment failure, which activated this fire alarm warning. The issue is being handled by Mall Maintenance. The mall is open and there is no danger to the public. Hemos estado recibiendo varias llamadas relacionadas con una emergencia activa en Tanforan Mall. Early this morning, a male was arrested after an observant citizen reported suspicious behavior involving a vehicle. Prior to his arrest, the vehicle fled the area, and with the assistance of the CHP Golden Gate Division, he was arrested. RETIREMENT ALERT: Today, we bid farewell to an amazing investigator, friend, and mentor. Detective Corporal Vance Nabeta (30David11) started his career in 1993 with the Marysville Police Department, working on the NET-5 Narcotics Taskforce and as a Patrol Sergeant. He spent three years at Yuba City PD as Field Training Officer, followed by six years at the California Department of Justice as a Special Agent. In 2011, he won the Award for Excellence from former FBI Director R...obert Mueller. Vance Joined San Bruno PD in 2012. During his 9 years in San Bruno, Vance was a Field Training Officer, a County Narcotics Taskforce Officer, and a Detective. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Vance for his 27+ years of service to the people of San Bruno, the people of the State of California, and his SBPD family. Bon Voyage Corporal! Enjoy Retirement. Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program. The National Family Partnership started Red Ribbon Week after the death of Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique Kiki Camarena, who was brutally tortured and murdered in 1985 by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. In honor of Agent Camarena's memory and his battle against illegal drug trafficking, friends and neighbors began to wear red satin badges. Groups of parents, frustrated wi...th the destruction that alcohol and other drugs were causing in their communities, looked to Agent Camarena as a model, and embraced his belief that one person can make a difference. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. The San Bruno Police Department joins in this noble effort each year. #GoRed4RedRibbon

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, Wreaths Across America and Walmart coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,100 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. Today, members of the San Bruno Police Department along with American Legion Post 105 and CHP helped escort the wreath motorcade to the Golden Gate National Cemetery. ---... On October 16, 2020, Officers responded to a shooting on the 800 block of Huntington Ave. Investigation revealed that at least one suspect fired at a group of people in front of the residence. While on a traffic stop, SBPD officers located a loaded, concealed firearm, along with live ammunition, and stolen property. Further investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in package thefts from several residences in the area. https://bit.ly/3nCSwDf

Today is World Mental Health Day. This year has taken and continues to take a toll on all of us. At the San Bruno Police Department, we strive to be on the cutting edge of mental health training and awareness. In addition to certifying our officers as Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) members, we continue to train and explore the field of Mindfulness and Compassion-Based Meditation. This past week three of our staff members attended a virtual intensive training with the Mindful Badge Initiative and earlier this year three of our Officers were trained as Mindfulness Peer Coaches. On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at about 12:42 PM, San Bruno Police Officers responded to the area of Tulare Drive and Amador Drive on the report of two subjects that stole a package from outside the front door of a residence. Officers checked the area extensively, but the suspects were not located. Please be on the alert regarding your deliveries and those of our community members.
