Not exactly succulents, but I know a lot of our followers like strange plants and will enjoy this art installation in Golden Gate Park.

Don’t forget our meeting tonight, especially if you enjoy growing the Mexican Crassulaceae. Julia Etter and Martin Kristen are among the most respected habitat explorers roaming inaccessible areas for these plants.

San Francisco Succulent & Cactus Society 27.10.2020

THIS MONTH'S PRESENTATION: Julia Etter and Martin Kristen offer us a glimpse at the habitat of some lesser-known Mexican genera in the Crassulaceae, including Cremnophila, Graptopetalum, Lenophyllum, Pachyphytum, Reidmorania and Thompsonella. These are often overlooked because they can be small, hard to get to, restricted in range, or not as showy as Echeveria laui, for instance. Nevertheless, there are some extremely attractive species. Most are easy to grow perfectly sui...table for a partly-shaded terrace or a sunny windowsill. Julia and Martin have focused on the Agavaceae and Crassulaceae since 1989. since 2009 they have been affiliated with the Institute of Biology of the Autonomous Mexican National University (UNAM). San Diego Cactus & Succulent Society zoom meeting this Saturday! Juan Miguel Artigas Azas The Cacti of San Luis Potosí México. Oct 10, 2020 12:30 PM (California) Link and series Info: https://www.sdcss.net/... VISITORS NOTE: Please add you club name or location next to your name in Zoom so we know where you are joining from. Juan considers himself a naturalist. Although he was trained as a civil engineer, a profession which he loves and on which he has made a living for more than 35 years, he has always been in contact with the natural environment. He has studied and written on cichlid fishes for many years and taken thousands of underwater pictures of them in Africa, South America, Central and North America. He has also studied and photographed many freshwater fishes of Mexico. Additionally, for many years Juan has also studied and written on cacti, managing pictures of blooming plants in habitat of hundreds of species. He has now for several years turned his attention to birds and he is greatly enjoying to learn about their natural history and how to properly identify and photograph them. He is still in the early stages of the process. He also takes pictures of any other animal or plant he comes near by.

7:00pm (California) tonight! Our meetings often feature talks on the succulents of South Africa's Western Cape, but this winter rainfall region also hosts numerous bulbs, other xerophytic plants and fascinating animals. In part one of her series Plants and Animals of the Western Cape, Hazel Taylor invites us to step back to take in this wider view. Join on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84121195110 Our tour begins in Cape Town, including the world-famous Kirstenbosch Na...tional Botanical Garden, before exploring the fynbos (fine-leafed bush) vegetation of the Cape of Good Hope. We will travel north along the coast, visiting wildflower bulbs in the reserves of Waylands and Tienie Versveld, and then on to the West Coast National Park for more wildflowers and increasing numbers of succulent plants. From there we head to the Knersvlakte, an area of quartz plains in Namaqualand, to see a population of Argyroderma delaetii, a mesemb being studied at the time by university scientists. Our final destination will be Nieuwoudtville, which has a reputation as the Bulb Capital of the World. Here we will also see a forest of tree aloes Aloidendron dichotoma and visit the Hantam Botanical Garden. All along the way the region’s fauna will be highlighted, from penguins and reptiles to pollinating insects. Come at 7pm for mingling and announcements. Join on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84121195110 MEETING ID: 841 2119 5110 PASSWORD - sfscs Dr. Taylor has been in the British Cactus and Succulent Society (BCSS) and its predecessor for over 50 years.
