Advertisement Advertisement Dental Industry California Dental Association Facilitates PPE Delivery To Dental Students The California Dental Association (10/22) reported that as dental schools adjust to a new school year in the COVID era, getting students back in the field and providing patient care in the safest, most efficient way is a top priority. To help local dental schools in their efforts to ensure students have adequate protection, CDA facilitated the delivery of a substantial amount of PPE provided by the state of California, and a CVS-Aetna grant also assisted in making the donations possible. The article stated that Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and Loma Linda School of Dentistry received a donation of PPE that will help students maintain infection control measures and offset the short supply and rising cost of PPE.https://www.cda.org//a-master-class-in-disease-prevention-
Image McCarran-Ferguson Reform Passes House Thank you!... Dear Advocate, Update: On September 21, the House passed H.R. 1418, the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act! The bill passed by a voice vote which means that no recorded vote was taken. We want to thank our members who sent emails to their Representatives both today and in previous calls to action. ADA advocacy and the action of our members made this vote possible. We will now turn our efforts toward the Senate. Please look for future calls to action to reach out to your Senators to encourage them to pass this bill as well. Thank you again! WHO clarifies recommendation regarding dental care The World Health Organization’s Aug. 3 guidance advising that routine, nonessential oral health care, including oral health check-ups, dental cleanings and preventive care, be delayed has been clarified. WHO Chief Dental Officer Benoit Varenne, PhD, expressed his concerns about media coverage of the interim guidance by stating, Unfortunately, a number of media headlines intentionally or not when they are referring to the W...HO guidance, did not mention that the recommendation to delay routine oral health care is only suggested in an intense uncontrolled community transmission scenario. A scenario that [does] not fit with the current situation of [most countries] around the world. So please be aware of the missing information sometimes disseminated by the media that could increase fear and concern of patients seeking oral health care. I think we all have to play a part in sharing with the public, national dental associations and health authorities the full story provided in the guidance document. The WHO issues guidance worldwide, and its most recent guidance is not specific to California. Guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health and CDA Practice Support provide resources and tools to help dental teams practice safely during the pandemic.
