San Diego County Orchid Society 15.01.2021

Greetings members and POS members. We have a great meeting coming up on Tuesday, Feb 02 on Zoom. We start at 7:30pm, but you can log in a bit earlier. Please be on time, as our speaker is in Florida and he will be starting as close to 7:30 as possible. He is Courtney Hackney talking about American Cattleyas, a hybridizer’s view of popular Cattleya’s in the US. On Wednesday, Feb 03 at 7:30, we will have a culture talk from Kay Klausing, past president of the SDCOS, abo...ut Thrips Management. These are the tiny nasty creatures that attack your orchid flowers and damage the blooms you’ve waited so long to see. Don’t miss it! We are also having a Plant Forum directly after the main speaker on Tuesday, so please send me your pictures. You can feature up to 4 plants. Please include the full name, species or hybrid, country of origin for species and parentage for hybrids, where you grow it, and any comments. Let’s put together another great plant show! See you Tuesday. If you want to attend as a guest, please email me at [email protected] and I’ll send you the Zoom link. Better still, visit sdorchids.com and become a member!

Happy almost election day! We are having a Zoom meeting tomorrow night at 7:30 as usual. You can consider it a break from watching the returns trickle in! Our speaker will be Ken Jacobsen from the SF Bay area. His topic is "Oncidium crispum group: History, Membership, and Culture". I expect it to be a very interesting talk. If you have photos for the plant forum and get them to me tonight (Monday), I'll try to include them. I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. If you are not yet a member, but would like to visit, send me a note at [email protected] and I'll send you the link.

On Wednesday, Oct 07, we will have Culture Class at 7:30pm. Peter Tobias will give instruction on mounting orchids. As usual, we count on our mem...bers for another popular feature - the plant forum. Participation has been excellent and it is so nice to see all the beautiful flowers everyone has grown during the past month. If you want to be included, here is what I need. Send images of up to 4 orchids to [email protected] by this Sunday latest. Include the Name, Hybrid or Species, Parents if a hybrid, Country of Origin if a species, Where you grow it, and any Other Comments you'd like us to mention. We'll share your orchids at the meeting!
