HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DR. SEUSS!!! This year to celebrate Theodor Seuss Geisels’ birthday, I have chosen to explore his special artwork that is on display and for sale. Although Dr. Seuss’ books themselves are already considered a form of art, there is a hidden form inside of them- his pictures. From the front cover to back cover and every page in between, anyone could pick out an image and find one to be deemed as their favorite. Mine is by far his One fish / two fish / red ...fish / blue fish artwork. This expands the value of Geisel’s work because it became a whole new way for people worldwide to celebrate and enjoy his work starting in 1997. As in any artwork, his images are located in galleries, museums, and apart of personal collections and are one more way to educate his readers. The If I Ran the Zoo Exhibition specifically shows animals including antlers, beaks, lions teeth, horns, rabbit ears, and turtle shells that honored his two-dimensional artworks and three-dimensional sculpture. His Retrospective Exhibition showed specific images from the 1920s to the 1990s that were either rare or never seen before. It included the many different aspects of his life including his role as a cartoonist, a military propagandist, an author, a poet and a sculptor. Other exhibits included Large-Scale Bronze, Hats off to Dr. Seuss, Rare Editions Events, and my personal favorite Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
