I live in Florida, but I’m stuck here in California for work. For obvious reasons, I haven’t been able to travel back to Florida safely to get my usual medical care. I had two incidents where I couldn’t get through to my regular physician at the last minute for acute problems. Even though she’s doing video visits, she’s been booked solid. So, I was trying to make a decision: Did I want to go to an urgent care, or try some of the phone or video visits that I had read about or ...seen being offered before? I really wanted to avoid taking time off of work, so I started to do some research. That’s when I found your telemedicine site and decided to give it a try, and it was great. I had two acute problems and I just needed to get treated ASAP. I called in with my physician in Florida and she wasn’t available. This was on a Friday. I could have tried again first thing Monday morning, but the time zone difference also makes it difficult. I would have had to get up at 5 a.m. on Monday to call my Florida doctor at 8 a.m. before things get really busy over there. I didn’t want to wait through the weekend anyway, so I called SAMI-Aid and it worked out nicely. It was prompt and to-the-point. The hardest part was figuring out what to call my ailment. The telemedicine doctor I saw didn’t have any problems treating it, and it’s healed now, so it worked! I do travel a lot for work, and I like telemedicine because I can access it anywhere. My wife started seeing a private psychiatrist about 3 years ago.Even with our insurance, the co-pays for psychiatry were getting pretty expensive and we just couldn’t afford it anymore.About a year ago my wife got a better job with good health insurance, and she was able to start seeing a regular therapist in person; but then, she lost that job too.I was recently laid off myself due to the pandemic. We seem to have never-ending insurance issues. I have depression and anxie...ty, so Ireally needto keep up with my meds at least for psychiatry, even if I can get by without going to the doctor for a while. Without health insurance, I used to get really worried and give into pessimistic ideas. But this time, I figured I might as well make the best of things, so I did a lot of research. When I thought of telehealth, I thought it would bejustwhat I was looking for, especially for psychiatry. My research led me to SAMI-Aid and sure enough, I could afford the cost and it worked exactly as I thought it would. It’s great to be able to make the appointment on my own schedule. I especially like being able to do it all without having to go down to the hospital or the clinic and feel like people might be judging me for having a mental health issue. I get nervous just having to go to the psychiatrist’s or the doctor’s office.I don’t like to see other people when I’m feeling at my worst, so I’m really grateful that this telehealth option is out there.I’m hopeful that people like me can still find ways to get the help we need virtually.
