#PlasticFreeJuly Challenge: Invest in a reusable water bottle! Problem: Humans buy about one million plastic bottles per minute! Only about 23% of plastic bottles are recycled within the U.S. Solution: Invest in a reusable water bottle! Not only are they good-looking and functional, you will save an average of 156 plastic bottles from entering nature annually.

If you celebrated July 4th in nature this year, please remember to clean up after yourself. Every individual has a responsibility to take care of the ecosystems we share with other living things. #PlasticFreeJuly

Sustainable Staff Tip From Kimber DeSalvo Anderson, Gulf Program Coordinator at Turtle Island Restoration Network: I always bring my reusable water bottle and my cutlery kit with straws everywhere. Both fit into my purse so I can always have them and I am not caught without them when I’m eating out.... Stay tuned for more tips from our staff during #PlasticFreeJuly!

"#PlasticFreeJuly Challenge: Bring the bag! Problem: Plastic bags are used for an average of 12 minutes, yet 100,000 marine animals are killed by plastic bags annually. Fewer than one percent of plastic bags are recycled, and don't break down completely but instead photo-degrade, becoming microplastics that absorb toxins and continue to pollute the environment. Solution: Bring the bag! By remembering to bring your own reusable bags, you are eliminating a source of single-use plastic bags from entering our oceans and waterways.

"Today marks the start of #PlasticFreeJuly! Plastic waste is found in the stomachs of over 50% of the world’s sea turtles, ingested by more than 90% of seabirds, and is tangling and choking whales, sharks, and other marine animals. We’re sharing tips all month on what YOU can do to prevent plastics from entering our oceans. What will you do to make your July plastic-free?"

Despite all of the hardships 2020 brought not only to our organization and our supporters but to all life on Earth Turtle Island Restoration Network has been working around the clock to protect endangered sea turtles, sharks, and whales, and the oceans that sustain us all. But it’s only with people like you by our side that we are able to do what is necessary to save endangered species and the habitat they call home. That’s why we’re asking you to support TIRN with a co...ntribution. A donation will help sustain our work during these difficult times. Donate here https://buff.ly/3nTXDyf

Our project is restoring a total of five acres of creek floodplain habitat across a quarter-mile long section of San Geronimo Creek, one of the most important watersheds left for endangered coho salmon!
