I was recently on a coaching call and the facilitator said three words that really had me thinking. She said, Order, Disorder, Reorder. It all made sense to me at that moment. Before everything went down and we were made to shelter in place, there was a sense or order in our lives. We worked hard, took care of our families, and lived our lives. Now, living in a world that might seem to be in a state of disorder, we have an opportunity to reorder everything: our personal liv...es, our businesses, and the world at large. In a sense we have been training for this and are already prepared to make change. As designers this is what we do, we create order out of chaos, we create beauty for our clients, we create environments to live, work and thrive in. As a community we are strong. I have never doubted that. With every catastrophe, downturn, or pandemic we have risen up to bolster ourselves, each other, and the world around us. This is no different. I am confident in knowing that we will come out of this stronger and better for it. It’s already happening. I see our design community rising up to the challenge, creating a New Order, so we can move forward, better than before.

I still love this living room we designed for one of our favorite clients. I especially love the custom folding screen we designed to conceal the TV when not being watched. The crackle-glazed parchment finish adds to the warmth that can sometime be missing from a modern high rise. This was an engineering challenge for us and the cabinet maker. @ Millennium Tower (San Francisco)
