Advocates, have you registered yet? Registration is NOW OPEN for the virtual NIWRC Specialty Institute, which will take place January 12-14, 2021! View tra...ining agenda and register here: bit.ly/2K9UGuR This year's theme: Weaving Together: Strength-Based Trauma-Informed Approaches to Support Survivors of Domestic Violence with Mental Health Challenges Victims/survivors of domestic violence with mental health issues face significant safety and confidentiality challenges. Domestic violence can have a profound negative impact on a persons’ mental well-being, which can lead to depression, anxiety, and even suicide. Domestic violence survivors are often reluctant to reach out for help out of fear of the stigma attached to individuals that have suffered abuse, being judged, or not being believed. People with pre-existing mental health issues are highly vulnerable and often targeted for abuse, and are even more likely to be reluctant to seek help. The purpose of this NIWRC Specialty Institute is to advance the discussion in our communities to improve responses to domestic violence and mental health concerns. This Specialty Institute will offer: - trauma and culturally-informed approaches to respond to survivors of domestic violence with mental health issues - brief overviews on mental health and domestic violence and the ways they converge and intersect - practical applications on what works and what doesn’t through the lens of survivors with lived experience - opportunities to identify common threads that are woven throughout these two issues and steps we can take to enhance our knowledge and understanding - education that will improve the work we do and strengthen our advocacy to address the violence in our communities for survivors with mental health challenges
Restraining orders are complicated. We help survivors navigate the protection order process by: 1. Educating them about protective orders and what they do 2. Provide help completing the forms 3. Prepare victims for court 4. support survivors in court ... and MUCH MUCH more! See more

There are intersections between domestic violence and human trafficking. This power and control wheel provides a small glimpse of challenges that our survivors come to us facing. Responding to these needs requires vast knowledge of trauma response, financial resources to help victims, trust, time, sensitivity, and partnerships. We are all in this together for Riverside County.
Domestic violence still remains as one of the most dangerous call outs for our law enforcement. RIP Deputy Michael Haugen and James Lehmann, Jr. #WeRememberYou
SAFE FJC has more legal services for victims of abuse thanks to a new grant awarded to Inland Counties Legal Services! We collaborated on this grant with ICLS and many community agencies in the county so that we could increase access and provide these services in a large geographical area to support survivors who must move around to maintain housing following abuse. Family Justice Centers are only as successful as the great leaders behind them. This month, we will be highlighting the leaders of our SAFE Family Justice Centers and the reasons that they are so invested in the work that each center does. It takes a community to help end family violence along with passionate people to help drive the force! #FJCLeadership
In loving memory of all of your loved ones who have passed. We wish you a beautiful day of celebrating life, family, and the memory of your loved ones. #DiaDeLosMuertos
Happy New Year! Love, SAFE FJC
Photos from last night's event with It's peachy! Together, we will end violence at home.
Can you help us!? Our Riverside center is in need of a new refrigerator. Our current one has gone out and cannot be repaired. This model is $648.00 at Lowes and will help us store items for clients. Let us know if you can help!
We are always here for you.
Have a safe and spooky day friends!
Wishing you all a happy new year from SAFE FJC!
Our centers are closed today and Friday for the New Year holiday. We will resume business on Monday 1/4/2021. Our event was a huge success thanks to all of our sponosors and players! Thank you for helping us respond to the needs of children and adults who have been abused. YOU help us create SAFER futures.
What a great resource! SAFE FJC encourages all survivors of abuse to have a safety plan in place for child custody exchanges and other situations. If you need help with developing a safety plan, contact on of our centers or you can create one online at National Domestic Violence Hotline
When kids have to go to court, we have a team of amazing partners to help prepare and support our kids through their experience. Victim Advocates: We have nonprofit and systems based Victim Advocates that accompany families to court and can help identify areas of victim's rights law to help reduce secondary trauma exposure at court. Kids Court & Counseling Center: Provides a court prep program teaching kids what court is and how to cope with the scary feelings that might pres...ent while at court. They also provide counseling services for kids who have witnessed/experienced abuse Facility Dogs: Sometimes the impact of trauma can be so severe that a canine companion is needed in court to help reduce extreme stressors. In many cases, some of the children that we work with only find comfort from our advocates with paws because too many humans have hurt them.
We were literally blown away by the support that we received at this year's SWING FOR SAFE FJC Charity Golf Tournament. We want to thank our sponsors, players, board, staff, volunteers, and committee for helping us build and maintain our amazing programs that help keep our kids and victims of abuse SAFE!
There is no other way to describe how much we love this work!
January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. If you want to learn more about how our community is impacted and the amazing local resources working hard to protect our adult and child victims, this is for you! We proudly serve as members of the DPSS CSEC steering committee and advocacy for local Survivors.
Special reminder for victims/witnesses who must attend criminal court. Please share and reach out to the Division of Victim Services if you need assistance.

Operation: deliver cheer! Thank you @riversidecountysheriff for helping us delivery these gifts to one of our families that currently does not have access to transportation. #wearesafefjc
Our partnership with the Crime Prevention Unit at Riverside County District Attorney's Office is about preventing crime by supporting our kids through difficult times. We believe in them, encourage them, help their families with the things they need, and wrap them up in our education/outreach programs so we can promote social emotional learning and reduce the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences!
We have an amazing partnership with the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation to support children with addicted parents. For many, it's hard to understand why addiction is happening and what to do about it. The program is designed to help kids realize: Addiction is a disease (an addict or alcoholic is a sick person, not a bad person)... Addiction is not their fault or their responsibility They are not alone (other kids are struggling with the same problems) There are healthy ways to cope with the pain and difficulties caused by their parents' substance abuse Our SAFE FJC clients can access this program for free. Contact one of our centers to learn more or email us at [email protected]
The very first steps that a survivor takes to get help is by crossing our Safe Family Justice Center Path of Hope. A paver in our Path Of Hope is the perfect gift this holiday season. Purchase a custom paver in our Path of Hope here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/DesignPage.aspx
Leaving a violent relationship is the MOST dangerous time for victims. Safety plans are important for anyone who is dealing with abuse regardless of whether or not they choose to stay or leave the relationship. If you know someone who needs to talk and figure out what their options are, refer them to our SAFE FJC.
The very first blog post by our partners at Riverside County District Attorney's Office covers a shocking story about the exploitation of a 15 year old local girl. Human trafficking is all around us and this blog is a way to gain insight about what is truly happening in our community and the dangers our youth are exposed to. Please take a moment to read more! This amazing new blog is going to take us to a place of knowledge and insight that you haven't seen before on social media!
Remember those bikes and toys that @rivcoda Eastern Region Bureau of Investigators helped is put together!? Well here's where some of them went... We support children and families for a long time when they need it. This sibling set lost their mom last year due to domestic violence homicide. In one night, their lives got turned upside down, losing both parents, and all of the stability they knew including the home they lived in. SAFE FJC has been working hard to support them w...ith critical services all year long and thanks to the help of our donors and partners at the Bureau, we got to make their Christmas extra special and their guardian let them open presents early. #wearesafefjc #ittakesacommunity #nomoreACEs See more
We had a visitor today! Chewie is an electronic scent detection canine with the Riverside County Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement/Internet Crimes Against Children (SAFE/ICAC) task force. Chewie was helpful in picking out gifts for families in need
Interns Marshall and Jose never imagined what their internship at SAFE FJC would look like during a pandemic. They have helped us triage emergencies, helped victims learn about restraining orders, developed online activities for our PAL kids and always leave us at the end of the day asking "what's next?" We are so proud of these guys and the amazing hard working advocates that they have become. This is the future of advocacy
These guys come together to support our families through every holiday each year. We are so thankful for you Dinah Chapter #97
We put out a call for help last week looking for some extra holiday support for our desert kids. Thank you to these amazing people for your help! Also, we can't get enough of these paint yourself gingerbread cookies by artisan studios!! @riversidecountysheriff @indiofiredartment @calfirerru @oldtownartisanstudios
Whew! It has been a very busy day for us. We don't know what life would look like without our partners. Thank you @crimesurvivors for helping respond to a new moms call for help. Mom just relocated to Orange County to flee abuse and went into early labor due to stress. We called in reinforcements to put together emergency baby supplies so we can help this mom have everything she needs when she goes home. Mom will still be able to get services from us but will also have closer to home services from the amazing advocates at Crime Survivors! It takes a village. #wearesafefjc
The holidays are always better when you celebrate together... from a safe distance in 2020, of course! Thank you to the Eastern Region Bureau of Investigation for helping us build out these life changing gifts that will give our kids a little bit of "normal kid time" as they navigate the challenges that this year has brought for them.
Don't forget! Holiday toys are due in to our centers this week so we have enough time to deliver!
This is a must watch for parents! Child predators are not only lurking on the internet, they may be in your kids phone, on their video games, and even in a hidden device gifted to your child. If you are interested in learning more about online dangers for your children, send us an email [email protected] and we'll help with zoom presentation for parents.
Thank you to I am a Promise Books for providing children's books as stocking stuffers for our families in need! Reading has so many benefits and is a wonderful self care practice. I am a Promise Books
Please nominate us!
Today this amazing group of people graduated from our 40 hour domestic violence counselor training. We didn't get to celebrate in person with photos and certificates but our hearts are full knowing that these guys get to roll out new skills that will make a difference for victims of crime in our community! #wearesafefjc #community
Dealing with abuse? You don't have to go through this alone.
Toys for boys are needed in Indio for all ages as soon as possible! Toys are going out to families next week. Deliver or mail to Monica Podlesny, 760-863-8363 82-995 Highway 111, suite 103, Indio, CA 92201
Proud to serve victims of abuse in our community for 22 years!
Happy Holidays? It may not be happy for everyone. Managing your personal well-being during the holidays can be challenging especially for those experiencing t...rauma. Also, this year many people are struggling to manage everything happening in their family and the world around them. Our Division of Victim Services is working this holiday season to be sure that survivors and their families have access to resources that will help them thrive. One such resource available to everyone is this free, virtual Emotional Life Skills class presented by Give an Hour on Dec. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please check out this flyer and register to learn more about how to manage this holiday season including healthy habits and mental health. Tis the season for giving! Some little and big helpers recently stopped by to contribute to our holiday program for victims of abuse. Thank you to the Berg family who has been collecting toys all year to make a difference for families in need! #wearesafefjc #community
For moms with teens! Check out this great and much needed content from our partners at HOPE Collaborative
One of our most requested services is helping survivors put together safety plans and identify risks for lethality. Speak with one of our Victim Advocates for help. Thank you DomesticShelters.org for putting together such an important video!
We changed our name from S.A.F.E. to SAFE Family Justice Centers because we are doing more for the community and for victims of abuse! We've taken our same great services for youth and adults and deployed them throughout the county in four regional centers located in Murrieta, Temecula, Riverside, and Indio. At each of our center locations, we have an amazing group of community partners working together to help solve the most extreme issues of abuse for local families. You can meet some of our amazing partners in our tags!
We talk about this quote so often when we are in the community. The work that we do is not only important for the survivors that need our help right now, but for the future generations in our survivors family. Abuse and violence is a learned behavior and we are working to change the story on how our kids grow up. #wearesafefjc #victimadvocates #violenceprevention #violenceintervention
This one gives us the "feels" and it is so relevant to our work. Many victims that come to us for help also need support in building up life skills. These are things that many kids and adults miss out on when there is trauma in the home. You don't have to have a parent to help you build life skills, this is something we can help with and there are a lot of amazing resources like this online! If you or someone you know has an important life skill that you'd like to teach, se...nd us an email about it! We might ask you to help pass a skill on to survivors in need! For most holidays, everyone is winding down to celebrate and enjoy. For us, the days leading up are busy. Tonight our staff is delivering a turkey meal to a mom who is still in recovery from her injuries while another is waiting for a parent rushing from work to pick up the meal that will bring their family together and would not occur without us. "I'm on my way..." Means so much more to our clients. It's a statement of support and care. #wearesafefjc #nomoreabuse #SAFEisacommunty
Dinah Chapter #97 stopped by last week to turn our classroom into a Thanksgiving factory building out meal kits for our families in need. Thank you to these amazing people who support our victims of abuse all year long.
Help us make a difference for our kids receiving services at SAFE FJC. We're helping their families stay safe, avoid homelessness, and are building them up so they can move forward on their own free from abuse. We need gifts and gift cards delivered to our centers by 12/18 to get them to all of our families in time. We have centers in Temecula, Murrieta, Riverside, and Indio.
We are all in this together! When you support the Rotary Club of Temecula on this project, you also support our SAFE Family Justice Center and several other nonprofits that work with vulnerable people in our community. Help us reach the $4000 mark!
We can't let our teens grow up without experiencing healthy relationships and having the opportunity to learn about them. This is why we have so many great programs for tweens and teens. #girlscircle #boyscouncil #teenleadership One Circle Foundation
