Food sovereignty is the next step and sort of revolution for us, Gensaw said in a Dec. 24 interview with the Times-Standard. Sometimes people don’t see the connection between food sovereignty and (activism). How are you supposed to fight for your rights if you have to worry about food access in your home? People can’t do it. We need to provide for people to make an impact on our lives on a daily basis. Congratulations to the Yurok tribe on their visionary efforts in food sovereignty! https://www.times-standard.com//yurok-tribe-purchases-40/

Tending the Elements: Fire. This summer, Californian’s learned powerful lessons about the strength and spirit of the element of fire. The fire showed us how fast she moves, and how quickly she can take everything away. Now, we have an opportunity to rebuild our relationship with fire and the landscape we love and call home. ... Sacred Lands, Native Hands is hosting a speaker series of Indigenous leaders and co-conspirators to speak on the ancient relationship between people and fire and how we can restore sacred fire to the landscape. Our first speaker is Catalina Llanos (@catalina4nevadacitycouncil), Nevada City Council Candidate, environmental scientist, and indigenous advocate. Join us on October 25th to listen.
