#ServiceStories: From April-September, Rick Ley SHB'09 picked up a second job as an on-call worker at a local family day center that was in dire need of extra help. He took weekend shifts to give the case managers a chance to rest and to support vulnerable members of his community. The shelter didn't allow volunteers, but Rick was able to donate back all of his wages with matches from his primary employer. Rick, we applaud your efforts!
After creating large-scale models of whales, Convent 2nd graders transformed the Spark Studio into an underwater sanctuary with whales suspended from the ceiling as disco lights flashed and music played in the background. A short video in the story below follows the project from start to finish. Check it out!
#ServiceStories: It's time to recognize Abigail (Gr. 4) and Abel (Gr. 1) who volunteered recently with San Francisco City Impact, handing out food to people experiencing homelessness and delivering hot meals to apartment buildings in the Tenderloin District. Way to go, Abigail and Abel!
A fourth grade fictional character election was every bit as exciting and hard fought as the presidential race. Give the full story a quick read and tell us who you would nominate.
On the shortest day of the year, we invite you to check out "Finding Light," a gallery of exciting K-12 visual and performing arts happenings. As we continue to warm our campuses with artwork, we hope this virtual display brings light into your heart and home. Explore: bit.ly/3riG5hG : Isabel Knott (Gr. 9)
From The Broadview: "Students are adapting to an abnormal way of life and are finding unique and safer ways to meet with new and old friends within their classes."
From The Broadview: "Although teams cannot start practices, Strength and Conditioning Coach Barclay Spring has been providing workout sessions on Syufy Court."
Christmas on Broadway starts 1 month early! While this year will look a little different, you can still ring in the holiday season with good cheer and savor many of the beloved traditions. So, grab a cup of hot cocoa and learn more here: bit.ly/36eMRer
#FlashbackFriday: Christmas is one week away, so we thought we'd share this shot of students performing a Christmas play in the Little Theater in 1962. Can you identify any of the actors? : Courtesy of the Convent & Stuart Hall archives
#NewFacultyFriday: This fall, we've been introducing you to our newest faculty and staff members with a mini profile series. Next up: Thien Chau. Please join us in welcoming Thien to Convent & Stuart Hall!
Noëls is a beloved Convent & Stuart Hall tradition that dates from the early days of the school when our campus was located on Jackson Street. This year, Noëls will be held with a special virtual program. Parents, please check your email for a link to join. You'll be amazed at how much can be done to honor the tradition without singing a note!
We're thrilled to welcome 9th and 12th grade students to campus today for in-person learning! Many 10th and 11th graders will join them on Friday.
Look at all the gifts that families have contributed to our K-12 Heart to Heart Advent Toy Drive! Thank you for helping make the season bright for so many children in the Western Addition neighborhood. To participate, drop off your new, unwrapped gifts by tomorrow.
While we're disappointed that we can't welcome alumni to the Flood Mansion to sing carols and celebrate the season, you can bring the tradition into your home with a collection of French Noëls recorded by The Alumnae Chorus. Tell us your favorite Christmas song or memory from your time on Broadway in the comments. The first 10 people to respond will get a free CD in the mail!
Thanks again to our student poll workers for their help on Election Day! Here are a few more shots of civic engagement in action.
A BIG congratulations to The Broadview for being named a 2021 Crown Award finalist for excellence in news by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. When final results are announced this spring, The Broadview will add a Gold or Silver Crown to this wall!
A shout out to all our high school students who are working the polls today. Thank you for helping our community vote!
Energized by many of the issues in today's election and inspired to participate in politics, some high school students are serving as poll workers around the city. Read more in The Broadview: bit.ly/2HYk5q7 : Graphic designed by Madeline Thiara (Gr. 11)
1st grade girls have been studying plants up close by tending a garden and observing what ryegrass, alfalfa and wheat need to grow. As it turns out, these students have a green thumb! : Belle Akers
#TeacherFeatureTuesday: Take a short break from Election Day and get to know Daniel Horan. You can also meet the rest of our new faculty and staff here: bit.ly/3mTsvhP
We would like to wish a very Happy Hanukkah to all our families, alumni, neighbors and friends who will begin celebrating the Jewish Festival of Lights this evening.
Have you seen the new issues of The Broadview and The Roundtable? Both are full of great stories, including election coverage. Be sure to pick up hard copies on campus or go to: The Broadview: bit.ly/3614K0g The Roundtable: bit.ly/3262eF8
From The Roundtable: "The younger generation has a lot of good ideas. Even though they aren’t legal adults who’ll participate in a lot of the lawmaking, they’re ensuring their own success and the success of the county."
President Krejcarek and dedicated Parents Association volunteers took a break last weekend from the Christmas on Broadway drive-thru pick-up line to pose with Santa. A BIG thank you to all who made the event a success, including sponsors, underwriters, vendors, volunteers and everyone who bought items. We are so grateful for your support!
