Sac County BOS, approved a $ 6million budget for Non-911 Mental Health Crisis Response. Essentially this is dope, Right? It's a victory for the people. So I won...dered why this felt icky. There were hella calls made to public comments, our folks were already in the street doing the work, talking points were developed, rallies planned, messaging crafted, and coalitions built. While BOS was deciding what to do, MHFirst expanded to Oakland, trained hundreds of folks, inspired other programs nationally and stayed in the streets doing the work. Then it hit me, so often the radial roots that developed our society as we know it is often erased. By the 501c3 profiters, the elected officials, and the folks whose job it becomes to clean up the image of what was once was a radical idea. Self -Care '' was once a cornerstone of radical feminist theory, now it’s how we describe a day at the spa or me time. The BPP held community patrols to monitor police activities, after the birth of handheld video recorders it became Cop Watching now Pigs have cameras on their chest. School breakfast programs, free clinics, Harm reduction practice, even the way we identify on job applications and medical forms were all rooted in radical struggle. So was the passing of this $6million budget for alternatives to 911, the CRISES Act and 988 to name a few. This shift was not spontaneous, it was not a matter of striking while the iron was hot. These small victories for the people are drenched in blood, sweat, tears and the radically beautiful idea that #WETAKECAREOFUS. I personally don't ever plan on forgetting, I hope y’all don't either. I hope we remember so many families are still hurting because their loved ones where killed when they needed care. More than that, I hope we don't become complacent. There are so many more radial ideas that need birthing even at the risk of being forgotten or co-opted

Yesterday's community art day of solidarity alongside @norcal_resist and the family of #AntonioThomas , murdered last year by the Sheriff's medical neglect. The community is still waiting for answers after Antonio was placed in harm's way inside the Downtown Jail and then denied timely medical treatment resulting in his death weeks later. We came out to the busy intersection of 16th & Broadway to show our solidarity with protesters in Kentucky and around the country demanding an end to #policeterrorism in all of its manifestations.
