Sadie initially presented to Sacramento Area Veterinary Internal Medicine as a transfer from Atlantic Street Veterinary Hospital PEC. She was a puppy with sudden onset of fever, lethargy and lameness. On her exam, pain and slight swelling was noticed. Radiographs showed an unusual pattern called Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD). HOD is a developmental disease which affects multiple organ systems in growing dogs. Dogs are treated symptomatically and usually recover, though occasionally it can be life threatening. She was treated and we are happy to report a complete recovery. A sample of blood was sent to UCD to be part of a genetic data base.
