With all eyes on the Presidential election this week, it would be easy to miss another important headline for the LGBTQ+ community. Yesterday the SCOTUS heard oral arguments in what will be Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s first major case, Fulton V. City of Philadelphia. The case involves Catholic Social Services (CSS), a foster care service provider affiliated with the Catholic Church, who sued the city of Philadelphia after the city stopped referring foster children to them onc...e it learned that CSS would not certify same-sex couples as suitable foster parents. This was in violation of CSS' contract with the city and the city's laws which both explicitly forbid such discrimination. CSS is fighting for the right of taxpayer funded religious organizations to discriminate based on religious beliefs and our legal protections against this type of discrimination are at stake, especially with a firmly established Conservative majority on the Supreme Court. This could undermine decades of hard won legal protections for the LGBTQ+ community. While a decision is not expected until June, we must demand our legislators pass the Equality Act now in order to provide explicit protections for ALL Americans. See more

We recognize that these are stressful and anxious times as we await election results. However we hope that you are prioritizing your self-care whatever that may be. Def. Self-care is any necessary human regulatory function which is under individual control, deliberate and self-initiated.

How are you? What's on your heart right now? This time is heavy. We're here to carry the weight with you. It can be easy to forget that our collective strength... and creativity go beyond Election Day. Our commitment to one another is what will free us, no matter who is in office. We are here to remind you of your power. We won't let up on the pressure we’ve built. We will use every strategy we can to defund and abolish police, and to decriminalize our communities Black people, trans people, sex workers, migrants, people living with HIV, people living with disabilities, people who are at the intersection of all of these experiences. Let's look out for another.
