Happy 8th Annual National Forensic Science Week! SCALE would like to recognize the amazing work that our members involved in forensic science do every day. Forensic science plays a vital role in the criminal justice system and without the work that the criminalists provide, justice would be much more difficult to serve. Thank you to all of our forensic scientist members for all that you do and enjoy this special week of recognition!

This past week, Sacramento County Regional Park Ranger Sergeant Paul Nanfito, met with El Dorado County Sheriff John D'Agostini and the parents of fallen Deputy Brian Ishmael #1689, who was killed in the line of duty 10/23/2019, to present the department with a hand carved wooden memorial plaque, bearing Deputy Ishmael's badge number, to proudly display at the Sheriff's Office. Sergeant Nanfito is a very skilled craftsman creating many intricate wooden carvings by hand. In 20...17, Sgt. Nanfito began honoring fallen officers by creating memorial plaques for departments to proudly display, reminding all to "Never forget". "Never Forget" is the mantra to remind those to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice unfortunately that some officers have paid. Sgt. Nanfito, a 30 plus year veteran to law enforcement said, by doing the carvings, it also helps him process and cope with each fallen officer. Deputy Ishmael's parents liked the plaque so much, that Sgt. Nanfito agreed to create another one for them as well. Just another day in life of our Sacramento County Regional Parks Ranger Response Team. Working with Regional Parks Maintenance Team and help from Rancho Cordova PD’s Hot Team: this was all in one day of work: 7.5 tons of trash removed from one area. The Regional Park Rangers Park Resource Team works with the maintenance team daily and literally takes tons and tons of trash out of the American River Parkway each and every week. This week alone they removed 23 total tons of trash from the Parkway. Dedicated to working daily to keep the parks clean for all to enjoy.

January 27 to February 2, 2020 is celebrated as Coroner and Medicolegal Death Investigator Recognition Week. Our profession is regularly overlooked as a very small, niche industry that people do not want to think about. Thank you for all of your hard work, last responders! - https://theiacme.com SCALE proudly represents the Sacramento County - Government Deputy Coroners and Supervising Deputy Coroners.
