Happy #DictionaryDay! We celebrate books of words today because on October 16, 1758, Noah Webster was born. He published his first dictionary, A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language, in 1806. The very next year, he began working on an expanded version of his dictionary, An American Dictionary of the English Language, that would take him 26 years to complete.
