In my work as a labor attorney, I see the reality of the lives of Dreamers. That's a cute name, but it doesn't do justice to their situation. They are truly homeless. No country claims them. They live in a culture that rejects them, yet lives off the spoils of their parents' labor. They know no other country, are not welcome in this country, and generally don't know the country they came from. The next time you toss a salad, steam broccoli, throw back a few almonds, sip that ...wine, or bite into a strawberry, think about whose hands brought that bounty to your table. Most likely, it was parents of Dreamers. In California, that largely means people living and working the strawberry trail, moving up and down the coast to follow the seasonal picking. They pay taxes. They work incredibly hard. Having their families with them is the only comfort they have. I've been in situations where a white worker on the trail is questioned about "why" they work there, because they shouldn't have to do "that work." This seems to be the mentality of "Americans." I doubt that those who voice opposition to the migrant workers would, literally, stoop to the level required to replace those workers. It is physically demanding and exhausting, and the pay is minimal. To lure "Americans" to do this work, pay would have to dramatically increase. (If you think organic produce is expensive, you ain't seen nothing yet.) Without the migrant farm workers, crops would rot in the fields. Why we cannot give their children the same protections as other American workers is beyond me. Labor Day means something different if your labor isn't counted.
Copied: Remember that time the U.S. asked Mexico to send its hard-working men and save the U.S. agricultural economy during war time? That time from 1942 to 196...4, when the U.S. offered 4.6 million contracts through The Bracero Program because many American growers feared World War II would bring labor shortages to low-paying, arduous, agricultural jobs scorned by most Americans? And then they kept renewing it because U.S. growers needed the cheap labor. This is how circular migration from Mexico to the U.S. was encouraged. This is the history of the Mexican immigrants some Americans now scorn. http://americanhistory.si.edu/bracero/introduction See more
PLEASE BEWARE: There is currently an email scam being perpetrated in our law firm name. Someone going by the name "Rhodes Motherwell" is using the firm name ROTHSCHILD & ALWILL, APC, claiming to represent our firm, and offering to make a claim for "abandoned finances" of a deceased person. THIS IS NOT FROM OUR LAW FIRM. We have contacted the FBI and the local police department to file reports. Please do not engage in any business with the contact information contained in these emails with the expectation that it is with our law firm. Please forward these emails to me at [email protected], so that I can forward them to law enforcement. Thank you.

http://www.msn.com//edith-windsor-whose-same-se/ar-AArPKIM Like the Loving case, which granted interracial couples the right to marry, this case moved civil rights forward. And it was less than a decade ago. It's important to remember how far we still have to go.
"When our bravest men and women raise their hand and volunteer to defend our nation, they defend all of her people. Rich and poor, young and old, democrat and republican, gay and straight. Americans of all races, religions, ethnicities, gender identities. Our soldiers do not discriminate. They don't offer to pay the ultimate sacrifice for some Americans and not for others. Their government owes them that same courtesy." ~Rep. Joe Kennedy
California's FEHA (Fair Employment & Housing Authority) is receiving some updates that are effective July 1, 2017. One is related to transgender and gender identity, and the other relates to the use of criminal histories in employment applications. http://hrwatchdog.calchamber.com//new-transgender-regulat/... http://www.calpeculiarities.com//new-regulations-limit-ca/
45 years later... When I was a baby, women weren't granted the same opportunities in education and sports through educational institutions. This law literally changed the game, providing that: "[n]o person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. Even in the last few years, progress has contin...ued. Think about the commercials that redefined what it means to "throw like a girl." Or the science and math kits for children aimed at both sexes, and not just boys. And women entering fields predominately male, and vice versa. (Think about how many male nurses were there in the 60s compared to now.) The far-reaching effect of this law brings our society closer to one of my favorite core ideal that America was founded on: Equal OPPORTUNITY for all. If you're given the chance, it's then up to you, but you have to be given the chance first. http://www.msn.com//45-years-since-title-ix-ho/ss-BBD33bE
