Monday, September 14, 2020, 10:34:46 AM PDT Hello, My name is Jason Vicks. My uncle and aunt Dewey and Anabel Bratcher both lost their home in a wildfire in Jumal, CA during the late evening hours of Saturday 9/5. Dewey is a twenty-two year veteran E7 Chief Air Traffic Controller of the US Navy. Since retiring he spends his free time umpiring high school and college baseball, as well as performing stand up comedy (he’s not as funny as he thinks he is, but please don’...t hold that against him!). His wife has worked in the medical industry for over 35 years, and they shared the home they lost with her elderly mother. My family and I have organized a GoFundMe page to help support Dewey, Anabel, and her mother Lupe recover from this tragedy and get back on their feet. Please be clear, I am not sending this message asking for any kind of donation from the CA VFW towards this fund. My hope is that someone attached to your organization can assist us with spreading the word. At the very least I’m hoping that someone can provide me with contact information of someone who can help raise awareness to this effort, and I’ll reach out to that person directly and go from there. GoFundMe Link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/dewey-amp-anabel-lost-everything Dewey and Anabel are great people. Dewey has served his country with distinction and our family is not going to stop working until their lives are as recovered as possible. My sincere hope is that the CA VFW organization can assist in this effort in any way possible. But even if you cannot, for whatever reason, thank you for taking the time to consider this request, and our family will always be indebted to your service to our country. Take Care, Jason Vicks Respectfully, Rodger W. Meier State Adjutant/Quartermaster VFW Department of California 9136 Elk Grove Blvd, Suite 100 Elk Grove, CA 95624

Do you know a high school student who could use help paying for college? Watch the video below and let them know about the VFW's Voice of Democracy Scholarship competition! This year's topic is... "Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned?" Entry deadline: October 31, 2020 We need to spread the word, and we're asking friends like you to help out. The Voice of Democracy Program is open to students in grades 9-12 (Oct. 31 deadline), who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories. We want to reach as many students as possible to compete for the grand prize: $30,000 paid directly to the American college, university or vocational/technical school of their choice!
