The community connection that has always been an important component of Rosen Movement has proven possible and beautiful, and even more essential during the tim...e of sheltering-in-place. It has been quite remarkable to experience the impact of the movement, to see how it gets transmitted even over great distances, to be amazed by what arises in the sharing circles, and to see and hear how the movement lives in each participant between classes. In effect, the new reality of physical isolation during the time of Covid has been an unexpected boon for Rosen Movement classes - we have been able to reach far more people on a consistent basis. And, we have expanded into new circles all around us. Rosen Method: the Berkeley Center sponsored an online Movement half-intensive at the end of June, and now we are offering another one in a few weeks. An interview is required for first time students. You can register at https://rosenmethod.com//rosen-method-movement-half-inten/. We are offering a scholarship for financial need during the pandemic in the amount of 1/4 of the tuition for anyone who requests it. To request a Cheryl Reed Scholarship, send an email with a brief description of your request to Theresa Garcia ([email protected]).

As the country begins to open up again, I have been working out how I am going to make my office safe to go back to work. Opening my office isn’t an immediate consideration - The Independent published an article today that there has been a new outbreak in Santa Maria (North Santa Barbara County) in a skilled care facility causing a number of new deaths. This will slow second stage (personal care) openings effecting bodyworkers like me. There is a part of me that welcomes the ...extra time as much as I miss working, because there is a lot to consider. One of the things that makes my list is air flow. Epidemiologists say the solution is dilution - I’ll likely have to get an air filter with a HEPA grade filter on it. Consumer reports on other air filters like that cute little Molecule brand haven’t looked so good despite the hype. With the prospect of increased air flow (open window if you have one) then you have to think about how to keep your clients warm on the table. Now, if you use blankets, you need a stockpile, so you can use a new one for every client. I have a table warmer, so that isn’t too large a problem except when I begin to think about how to keep it sanitized. Of course there will be clean sheets on the table, but in my business, feelings, and tears sometimes arise increasing fluid production. I won’t say it happens a lot, but sometimes people cry enough to dampen the sheets they are on - causing me some concern about keeping the pads below the sheet sanitized. A friend recently sent me this link, and I am so grateful. This company is making just what I was looking for - moisture resistant sanitized sheets that I can put on my table between the heating pad and the regular sheets that can be wiped down! There are also pillow cases to protect the pillows I use. I also plan on putting a sheet on the daybed sofa that I have in my office, so I’ll be able to wipe that down too. I have copied the link here if anyone else is interested. Xo Meg https://www.shop.innerpeacesheets.com/The-Hygienic-Line_c13

Rosen Method Bodywork When we work on people they remind me of flowers who have not yet bloomed. A flower bud looks very different before the first bud appears. So it is in a person’s body that is closed, and does not reveal anything about it’s life and beauty. The muscle tension presents a picture of no aliveness and as we put our hands on those tense parts, the body slowly begins to open. This is like a blossom that opens into beauty and color. The person begins to emerge ...before us. As the breath moves through the body, it becomes more alive. This opening has the same effect as a flowering bud. It is changing into something more alive. The person becomes the beautiful human being that was hidden. As a Bodyworker this process never fails to touch me in my deepest being, so I open up to the person under my hands. The contact that is created is one of deepest connection and trust and seems to open our channels of love in both people. That is the reason why afterwards we do not know who is the person who gave the treatment and who received it. You cannot hurry a flower to open to its full bloom. It opens when it is ready to open. The same with our treatments. We may believe there is a beautiful person under our hands, but all we can do is patiently wait while we put our hands on the held muscles. Our joy is to witness this process, and to slowly bring it into the awareness of the person of the person we are working with. What we may see first is pain, sadness, fear or anger. As the person is allowed to be with themselves without any judgement they allow all the other emotions that also had been buried. Marion Rosen.

Rosen Method Santa Barbara will be closing it’s office in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID - 19 and flatten the curve. I will be closed until at least 3/27 and will reassess as appropriate. As we collectively change our habits of busy-ness, I hope you will use the time to connect with yourself in other significant ways. This is an easy decision in that it is the right thing to do for those in my community who have vulnerabilities that would significantly increase th...eir morbidity rate. My decision is an act of love, and as many acts of love, it does not come without personal cost. We are always living with the unknown, and how we respond to uncertainty can lead to freedom. It seems we are all receiving a master class in living in the unknowable moment. Marion Rosen PT, and the founder of Rosen Method, use to say that it is in the pause (between habitual behavior) that change happens. Let us all take this pause that is being thrust upon us to turn toward love, kindness and connection in new ways. Meg
