Our client came in with box die black on top of black. It took us 4 times lightning it and we never did any cutting, leaving her hair long. Left in the best condition with this type of lightning on black hair is the most damaging. But we kept her hair healthy. Now she is a pretty ombré after 4 lightning treatments. Took us 6 months but it sure was worth it.
