Came across this and thought I would share. These are called "Bay leaves" Many people add bay leaves to foods, red meat and poultry but do you know why bay leaves are added to food? When asked why, some reply: to add flavor to the food... Do you know that If you boil some bay leaves in a glass of water and taste it, it will have no flavor? Now why do you put bay leaves in the meat? The addition of bay leaves to meat converts triglycerides to monounsaturated fats, and for experimentation and confirmation: Cut the chicken in half and cook each half in a pan and place on one bay leaf, and the other without bay leaf and observe the amount of fat in both pans. If you have bay leaves, there is no need for a pharmacy. Recent scientific studies have shown that bay leaves have many benefits & helps to get rid of many serious health problems and illnesses. The benefits of bay leaf are: - *Bay leaf treats digestive disorders and helps eliminate lumps, Heartburn, Acidity & Constipation. *It helps regulate bowel movement by drinking hot bay tea. *It lowers blood sugar and bay leaf is also an antioxidant *It allows the body to produce insulin by eating it or drinking bay tea for a month. *IT eliminates bad cholesterol and relieves the body of triglycerides. *It's very useful in treating colds, flu and severe cough as it is a rich source of vitamin "C", you can boil the leaves and inhale steam to get rid of phlegm and reduce the severity of cough. *Bay leaf protects the heart from strokes as it contains cardiovascular protective compounds. *It's rich in acids such as caffeic acid, quercetin, eigonol and bartolinide, substances that prevent the formation of cancer cells in the body. *It eliminates insomnia and anxiety, if taken before bed, helps you relax and sleep peacefully. Drinking a cup of boiled bay leaves twice a day breaks kidney stones and cures infections ... Bay leaves are a must in my collection of spices!

Great article on Berberine for blood sugar regulation. Berberine is a constituent found in the Chinese herb Huang Lian (Coptis Chinesis) and other herbs such as Goldenseal and Oregon Grape. This little miracle has not only been found to naturally help to regulate blood sugars as well as Metformin, but also to lower triglycerides and overall cholesterol levels! As with any supplement, consult with your healthcare professional before starting any new regiment.

Shopping to Support the Good Food Movement: I am a HUGE advocate for the good food movement. Our food supply in America has been needing some serious work to say the least, from factory farming to a tainted seed supply. GMO’s have infiltrated and selection of seed for a harvest has focused on mass quantity but is terribly lacking in quality. Yes, we are what we eat. The number of patients that I see everyday with auto-immune, headaches and digestive issues steadily increase...s. It seems that grass root movements are sometimes the best way to get our voices heard and to get things done. The tide has started to turn for the best but still needs allot of work. That means supporting, demanding and choosing the farmers and the advocates on that journey. However, shopping for sustainable food choices can be difficult. Labels are confusing and the controversy over standards continues to grow. All-natural, grass-fed, free-range, pasture raised, sustainable sourced, certified organic, non GMO. I started this post wanting to share a watchdog organization called the cornucopia institute (pictured below). https://www.cornucopia.org/ The Cornucopia Institute, through research and investigations on agricultural and food issues, provides needed information to family farmers, consumers and other stakeholders in the good food movement and to the media. We support economic justice for the family-scale farming community partnered with consumers backing ecologically produced local, organic and authentic food This organization actually goes out and inspects farms for authenticity and quality. They have an egg scorecard and a dairy scorecard, so we can look up the products in our local market and see what we are purchasing and support those farms that are working hard to maintain good practices. There website also has information on our seed supply and GMO labeling. There website is an incredible resource and I was actually surprised to find out that one of the best farms for eggs is local and carried in my local grocery store! Awesome!!! Finding sustainable farms with good practices for livestock is a little harder. Look for labels that say 100% grass fed and grass finished, not grain finished. It is best also to have at least two credible third-party certifications on the label. Always try to buy organic when possible because this limits the introduction of GMOs. This website seems to be a great resource for farms with best practices https://www.americangrassfed.org/producer-profiles/ Happy shopping, your bodies and your biomes depend on it!!
