The City of Fremont has proclaimed Executive Order, EO 2020-03, (http://fremont.gov/ExecutiveOrderFaceCoverings) requiring the use of face coverings at certai...n essential places of business to protect workers and the public and prevent community spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The places of business identified in the Executive Order include those where members of the public may still be visiting for essential services during this time. Workers at these businesses must wear face coverings over their noses and mouths while performing their jobs. These face coverings must be provided by their employer and are not required to be medical-grade masks or N95 respirators; cloth coverings, such as scarves and bandanas, are suitable. All customers/consumers and visitors of the identified businesses and organizations must also wear face coverings to provide additional protection for employees and other customers, and may be refused admission or service if they fail to wear a face covering. In addition, employers of all essential workers must permit their employees to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer at least every 30 minutes. As stated in the Executive Order, the new regulations are effective immediately and apply to people within the City of Fremont until the local emergency is declared over, or unless otherwise stated. City of Fremont to Activate Emergency Operation Center to Monitor the Potential Public Safety Power Shutoff Fremont, CA - On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, the Cit...y of Fremont’s Emergency Operation Center will be activated to monitor the potential PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). The City of Fremont has approximately 5,000 residences and business that could be affected by the potential power shutoff. Based on the most current information, the heightened window of concern for the City of Fremont is Wednesday, October 9, at 8:00 p.m. through Thursday, October 10, at 3:00 a.m. The northeastern parts of Fremont, including Niles, Canyon Heights and the Cherry/Guardino area are the primary neighborhoods impacted in Fremont. To learn more about the anticipated power shutoff visit and/or to see if you are in the impacted area, visit www.PGE.com. In preparation for the power outage as well as the potential for unforeseen damage caused by the expected high winds, the City of Fremont is staffing up Fire and Police services beginning Wednesday. Fremont Fire will staff an additional wildland fire engine with four firefighters for rapid deployment throughout the County and the Police Department will deploy additional patrol resources; including Community Service Officers (CSOs) and volunteers to the specific areas impacted by the power outage. The police department will also monitor traffic along the Mission Blvd. corridor, due to anticipated signal outages. We recommend commuters avoid Mission Blvd. if possible during the wind storm and please remember to treat all signal outages as a four-way stop. Several additional City Departments, including Public Works, Information Technology (IT), Human Services and Community Services are on stand-by with additional resources in place should they be needed. According to the National Weather Service, the offshore wind event has the potential to be the strongest offshore wind event in the area since the October 2017 North Bay Fires. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the North Bay Mountains & Valleys, and East Bay Hills and Valleys from 5 a.m. on Wednesday until 5 p.m. on Thursday. Red Flag Warnings are issued for weather events that may result in extreme fire behavior within 24 hours. During these times, extreme caution is urged by all community members because a simple spark can cause a major wildfire. There is the potential for the outages to occur in other parts of Fremont due to uprooted trees and down power lines. The power outages could last several days due to power restoration processes. We recommend all Fremont residents prepare for multiple days without power. This would include alternate powers sources, lights, chargers, batteries and other necessities like food, water and warmth. Residents with access and functional needs are encouraged to stay in contact with a family member, neighbor, or partner who can assist them during the outage. Life threatening emergencies, fires, and down power lines should be immediately reported by calling 911. Non-emergencies such as traffic congestion and down trees should be reported by calling 510-790-6800 x 3.
