Our designs are never cookie cutter nor do they fit neatly into a design style. We find our clients don’t fit in neat little boxes either! These clients, though they leaned to contemporary design, also wanted to incorporate special pieces like the antique writing desk that belonged to our client’s grandfather. Like many other designers this year, we've been slammed. Some days its just the number of fabulous jobs going at once, somedays its the stress and struggle of everything being out of stock, getting lost in transit, contractors overwhelmed, name an issue, we've been dealing with it. We designed this custom stair and ceiling for a client who loves all things fun. My eye is always drawn to interesting fireplaces and this one sure caught my attention. I love the opening to the fire box and the wood detail is gorgeous. Ready for a little color in your life? Neutrals have had a good run, and for the right person are still just right, but color is definitely on the rise. As a designer, that makes me happy. I see too many people who like color, but are too afraid they’ll choose wrong and opt for neutrals because they’re safe. They are definitely safe and frequently boring. That’s just my opinion, but a well done monochromatic scheme generally requires the same skills to execute as designing ...with color. So I say if color makes you happy, go for it! Sometimes it’s best just to keep it simple like we did in this bathroom in La Jolla. Space was at a minimum so recessed medicine cabinets in the mirrored wall add storage while visually expanding the space. We kept the material palette simple by limiting ourselves to a floor and wall tile and using clear and frosted glass for the shower and toilet enclosures. Reminder to #vote. Well, it’s Friday which is always an occasion for a great on the patio after work, and I see no reason to make an exception today . My kitchen reno is slogging along, although I think next week might be the big week of countertops and plumbing. The entrance to this @ericolsendesign house is so incredibly inviting I’m totally in love and wishing I could snap my fingers and transform my own entrance.
